Winterization

How cold can you go down without winterizing a Montana? We’re into the fall nights of dropping just below freezing for a short time befor sun up and then climbing back into 60s.

If it's in storage, I would have it winterized anytime it gets below freezing. If you are still living in it, just disconnect the city water and make sure you are running the furnace. Under such conditions, they are supposedly rated to 0 degrees... however, I don't put my money on much less than 10 degrees.

Assuming we're talking storeage, that's really an it depends issue. First it depends on how long it's below freezing at night and how much the belly of the trailer warmed up in the daytime. Wind makes a difference as well as being shaded. Then it depends on how much you trust your weather forecast and how much money you're willing to risk. If it were me, I would at least blow the water out of the lines and add some antifreeze to the washer if you have one.

With day time temps in the 60's I would not be worried about morning lows at 30 or so. Takes a while for the cold to get thru to the water lines and then get that water cold enough to freeze. BUT. I would not wait long if the temps are dropping that low. A strong front could come thru any time with much lower temps. Do it while the weather is still agreeable unless you have a trip planned before closing up for the winter.

Winterization

Thank you’ll for your responses. We do have one last trip in a couple weeks and forecast looks like we’ll have another warm spell saving the day... but I’ve got my winterization kit packed an ready to go if needed.

Not sure if you are camping in it or it is just sitting.?

If you are using it, you should be good down into the teens at least. Lower if you are using the campers furnace since it heats the under belly some what.

If it is just sitting/stored it would have to be below freezing for some time to freeze up. I would not worry unless its below for say more that 6 hrs. You can run a little ceramic heater in it to keep it warm. Hang a drop light with 100w bulb behind convenience center.

Your camper is 12,000 pound heat sink. If you keep it closed up it takes a long time to change temperatures. I wouldn’t worry about freezing up in a few hours. I’ve stayed in them when night temperatures got down to the low teens without any heat and no damage.
