Shower drain leak? - Montana Owners Club

I have a 2014 3402RL and with the basement panels removed I can see that when the shower is running I have water leaking down around the outside of the black drain pipe.

I do not see how to remove the drain from either side. The screw in the shower drain just removes the drain screen.

Any ideas??

I don't know for sure but the drain, which would have a compression seal underneath the ring to seal it to the shower floor, might be threaded into the pipe below the shower but since it's ABS the pipe is likely glued in. You would most likely have to cut the drain pipe in order to unscrew it from the drain.

While it likely isn't too difficult to do that I might be tempted to first try a little Flex Seal caulk underneath the shower where the flange seals against the shower floor. If it's a small leak that might take care of it.

I had the same problem with the drain in my 03 and it was a super pain to fix. Like JSB said use some silicone or Flex-Seal and try that first. They make a clear. Clean the area with denatured alcohol first to make sure area is clean. Use a hair dryer to make sure it's dry also. Any moisture and nothing will stick

okay, here's the answer. I found online a video that should how these things were put together.

So I removed the HEVPO valve and the 90 degree elbow. I could see that the screw on coupler that held the elbow to the shower drain was loose. So I removed everything and cleaned the parts and reassembled. I think the gasket in my old HEVPO valve maybe bad as I have a very slow leak there but not from the shower. So now I've ordered a replacement HEVPO and will replace it tomorrow.

My shower drain, plastic, had a plastic threaded ring to tighten drain into shower base. And the hero and angled part as well. My drain had a Crack around it. I replaced it with a metal bar sink drain and then used schedule 40 ptrap parts from lowes to connect everything to the tank pjpe. No more hero sticking closed, no more hero letting tank gas into the rig.

Replace the whole works with a normal p-trap. For the life of me a don't understand why keystone decided to reinvent the wheel with the worthless new trap idea.

I know the HEVPO valve wouldn't need winterizing. Mine work fine and no odor problems. It's worked okay for 6 years. Once this repair is done, i expect another 6.

Winterizing a normal p- trap takes a cup of RV anti freeze and less than 3 seconds to do. Just saying.

I agree that it's easy and I pour in the anti freeze anyway. But it's the only reason that I could see that Keystone would use those HEPvO valves. They are more expensive than a P-trap at the hardware.

There could be many differences between our models but perhaps this will help. My shower drain is connected to a HepVO device (https://hepvo.com/). This device replaces the typical P-trap. The HepVO uses compression fittings on both ends. If the HepVO has been removed and reinstalled, it is possible that one of the compression rings fell off and the joint is not sealed. Happened to me once and I had to remove the wall between the convenience bay and the pass-thru storage to retrieve the ring.

I installed a new Hepvo valve and i was surprised how tight i had to turn it connections to stop all leaks. The new gaskets needed a lot of compressing.

Anyway all good now. I'm adding to my check list looking at these connections with water running in the shower at least twice a year. Or anything i remove the basement panels that hide all the working parts.

you remove the chrome cover. There is a tool like wrench (included in drain kit) you put inside the drain and unscrew the top part. The guided piece of the pipe must be cut where you can reglue it back to the new piece. Good Luck

I and friend had the same problem with 2005 - 3400 RL's. The hole in the floor under the shower drain did not line up with the drain pipe. Remove the P Trap under the shower. Remove the shower drain pipe. Use a keyhole saw to enlarge the hole in the plywood floor so it removes the pressure on the drain pipe. Re-install using plumbers putty around the drain. It fixed our shower leaks. The root cause is lack of quality control in the factory.
