Montana Slides

Hello,

We have a 2001 Montana 3255RL. Due to the recent heatwave, we have spent the last month "camping" next to our old, warm house. The slides have been closed while mowing the grass around it, but have been open most of the time. When we finally retire and make the leap to fulltiming, how often should the slides be closed? When they are closed, should they be closed for any specific length of time? We have been calling our time living in our fiver this month as 'practicing for retirement'. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

When our rig sits for six months during our Florida snowbirding, I operate the slides once a month. Most in our park leave open the entire snowbird season and never operate them.

I think the general recommendation is to operate them full travel every month or so to keep things loose and working right. But mine are left in for months at a time especially during the off season.

From Lippert manual;

Mechanical Maintenance
Although the system is designed to be almost maintenance free, actuate the room once or twice a month to keep the seals and internal moving parts lubricated. Check for any visible signs of external damage after and before movement of the travel trailer.

Oursare out for 6 months at a time it is more important IMO to keep the slide rails clean and lubricated

Ours is stored in a pole building with the slides out from 12/1 thru around 4/1. never an issue without moving them during that time.

Thanks to all who replied! Once retired and the house is sold, we plan to get a new(er) Montana. We would rather make big mistakes on an older fiver than a new one! Thanks, again.
