Trailer Brake Controller

I would like to hear some pro's and con's on different Trailer Brake Controller. I just found out mine is on the blink and needs replaced. I would like to do it without breaking the bank but at the same time capable of handling the monty.

The only two words I will put in this thread is Tekonsha Prodigy. My opinion, but I have had one for years, set it and forget it!!

We have the integral controller on the Silverado, but when we had one.....exactly what Bingo recommended!

Upgraded to the P2 when we installed the disc brakes and love it. Suggested retail is about $160 but it is available on line for much less.

$98.99 at adventurerv.net for the P2. I am posting this only for evaluation purposes since I am not associated with them, other than they are my new favorite source for a bunch of goodies!!

Glad to hear all of you testify. Thanks much. I have been researching the new for the P2 and prices anywhere from $98 up to $160. My question is do you have to by the harness separate? And how hard is it to install on the GMC 06 flavor.
I read all the detail on the tekonsha and looks like all expectations are listed.

It's easy to install, I just put one in an 06 3500 using the jumper made for the truck. Once I found the connection it only took about 20 minutes to complete the installation. The connection is in the box just to the left of the steering column against the firewall, remove cover and its the second connectgion for the left top row (but check your owners manual to verfy). I have the Hensley TruControl I had their Hensley Arrow when towing a tag along and was impressed with their manufacturing and design of it. The TruControl works well for me and also is a plug and play.

Before my integrated system, it was Prodigy. Worked beautifully. Sold it and it is still being used.

I also have the P2 Prodigy by Tekonsha. Used it on my previous SOB and SOT and it works very well for me. I recommend that you also buy the harness that plugs directly into your truck electrical connection box.

I use the Prodigy. It is reasonably priced, easy to install and easy to use.

Sounds like the Prodigy is the way to go. In looking at the promo material I like what it does in the way of trouble shooting the system for you. I have found a couple of places with it priced in the upper $90 dollar range. RV Wholesalers even has free shipping with orders of $125 so with the need of a harness for about 10 - 13 dollars I should be able to find something else to push the sale over $125. That would be like almost getting something free

I saw a thread a few weeks back about some trucks ITBC not compatible. Just picked up our new Montana 3791 with disk brakes. I have a 2011 GMC 2500. ITBC worked on our old magnet brakes but not the new disk brakes. I really hate the idea of having to put an aftermarket unit hanging down under the in dash controller. Anyone else with an incompatible brake system? Or am I just missing something.

I too would be upset that my ITBC, engineered by the manufacturer to work in conjunction with the truck brakes, doesn't work with the particular hydraulic system supplied. That is a deal breaker for me.

However I seem to recall the problem can be overcome by wiring a brake magnet into the system. I don't have the problem (yet), but maybe a Google will locate more information.
