Internet Suggestions?
Hey Everyone... First post here. My fiancee and I are purchasing our first fifth wheel (obviously a Montana since I'm here) and are beyond excited.
Our lease is up at the end of April and from there we go full time in a 3400RL.
We are self employed and run an online business and have been working from our home for the past 4 years or so. We have been planning on doing the full time thing for the past 2 years because we both love camping and figured we aren't tied down to anywhere so why not?
Because we work online I obviously need reliable internet and wanted to see what everyone here uses. I know most parks have connections but we do plan on doing a bit of boondocking as well so I'll need some internet for that as well as a backup plan just in case the internet is too slow at a park.
So that brings me to my question...
What do you all use for internet?
I'm thinking a pay as you go satellite plan in conjunction with a hot spot from Verizon since I can add one to my business plan but would love some feedback.
Thanks and stoked to be here!
-Justin

Verizon Jetpack. We have 5 lines, 2 cellphones an iPad the Jetpack and the Home Phone Connect that we use for our on line business, for about $180 per month. Great service. We have, I think 16 G of service. They just went to unlimited service this week but it would be an extra $20 a month which we didn't need so I passed on that.

I had a jetpack and found that my Samsung Galaxy 5S worked just as well for me so I ditched the jetpack and saved $20 monthly.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!
That was pretty much what I was thinking as far as Verizon. Stoked about the unlimited data too.
Anyone ever use satellite internet at all or is it not really worth it with the hotspot?

AT&T is vastly improved as far as coverage goes, but if you are going to the boonies Verizon is still the way to go. Took my sister out to see Sitting Bull Falls and my Verizon worked and AT&T didn't.

Verizon Jetpack here also, really like it a lot and very reliable!
As far as satellite internet, I checked into it once and didn't do it. Tech said it won't work for campers if you move around because it is very hard to aim and is sensitive to movement. Stay with the Jetpack!!!

I wouldn't plan on rv park wifi. Have only seen one or two in five years that works like you would expect. Most are pure doggy doo.

AT&T
I switched from Verizon Jet Pack about 6 months ago as I did not like their pricing for data. I went to what AT&T calls "home phone and interner". 25GB of data is about $60 and you can up that to 50GB for $80. It is just another black box about 4 inches square, but what I really like about it is that it has an ethernet port which makes a router an option.. It also has its own phone number with a phone jack so you can plug in any standard phone. In my opinion it is also much faster than the Jet Pack - I am just outside of Phoenix, so have a good signal but just ran a speed test that showed 30MBPS both up and down. I never saw that kind of speed out of Verizon. Coverage has been excellent in my travels, but the laws of phusics will always apply!!

So the JET PACK will it work if my verizon phone has no bars? Our vacation land is in the woods 3 miles from CANADA? We don't care so much about using the phone. But we really need the internet. Anyway The satalite company up there will only give it to you if you pay by the year.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is getting a cell phone range extender like one of the WeBoost units. I you are going to be camping more remotely it may be worth while. Take the funds you were thinking about spending on a satellite setup and put in one of the range extenders and it will help those times you are on the fringe of coverage seeing you are dependent on connection for your livelihood.

So we are going FT this summer I read lots of comments above , and in general sounds like the Verizon JetPac is preferred Last posting was quite some time ago, and given the speed technology changes, is this still true ???
Any feedback is appreciated on this subject

As far as I know that's still true. Folks who visit either of our home bases, Wilsey, Ks and Lakewood, NM still have trouble with their AT&T occasionally and little to no service from others.

Almost always use my VERIZON phone as a hot spot when we travel. CG wi-fi is a joke at most campgrounds. Verizon almost always works. Did not have service at Yosemite Lakes, and their satellite hot spots sucked.
With 5G coming soon, I would make sure that any purchased equipment is either upgradable or can be traded in when 5G becomes more available. I'm sure that any 5G equipment will be downwardly compatible with 4G. Hate to spend money on technology that becomes obsolete almost immediately. Just my two cents.

Our phones are AT&T and will be getting a Verizon Jetpack soon. Between teh 2 I should have coverage if there is any to be had.
