Knee replacement finally set up
We got back from the rally today and met with Carol's Orthopedic Surgeon. She tried all of the non invasive options including cortisone and Synvisc and NOTHING worked. She will have total replacement of the first knee November 3. Then the rehab starts. We are hoping to be in Florida after the holidays but now are not sure. If her pain is lessened, even the snow up here will be more bearable.

Donna is also facing a total knee replacement in late November. We would be interested in learning from your experiences, if you don't mind sharing. (PM us if you prefer). Thanks.

Jim, Mine and Nancy's prayers will be with you and carol. My sister is having the same thing oct 27th. A friend had both of his done last yr and doing good. I think his took only a couple hrs. The rehab is the most important. Follow it completly and Carol will be running laps around you!! lol take care.

My father's knee replacement was highly successful. Let's expect yours to be too.

Carol,
We'll be praying for a quick recovery. My dad is having his second replacement this coming Monday. His first replacement was five years ago and very successful. Now the other one has reached the place he is ready to do it agian.

Having had this procedure done in 1994 and again a repair in 2007 after wearing out the plastic between the two pieces of titanium, I can vouch for a good result. The main thing about this type of procedure is to do the rehab. You will experience some pain while rehabbing but don't quit. I have full use of my leg -- it doesn't bend quite as far as it did before the original surgery and the second surgery reduced the amount of bend a little bit more (surgeon said that would be the case). But I still have about 100° of bend. I can kneel on that knee just as well as the good knee.
Be assured that everything will be okay, but again, do the rehab. I have a cousin who cannot walk now because after she had the procedure(s) (both knees, some time apart) she refused to do the rehab and now cannot walk without a lot of pain. So, you guys will have to be very understanding and encouraging to your spouses -- help her with the rehab -- encourage her with "Let's walk from here to the corner and back." You'll be surprised how fast she will recover.

[size=4]Thank you again so very much for your thoughts and prayers. Orv - God Bless You for taking the time to let me know what I have in store for me. I know that rehab will not be easy but your kind words will help me make it through. Thanks again, Carol.

Carol Thelma will beat you to the surgery. She is scheduled for the left one on Oct. 20. Then later in the winter the right one will be done. She has done her presurgery exercises faithfully for the last month and a half so hope it will go good.

Found this site and think it explains the procedure very well in an easy to understand way.

Very interesting. Possibly more information than Donna really wanted, but good to know anyway.
Thanks for posting!

Carol had her right knee total replaced today and all is seemingly well. Her surgery did not start until about 5:00PM so she did not get to her room until late. She is on super pain killers now but looks great and her surgeon said all looked like it went well. The pain killers hopefully will give her her first night's sleep in seemingly forever. Tomorrow starts the rehab and hopefully a start to getting her life back. Thank you all so much for your kind words and prayers. They really did work. I heard once "If you pray, don't worry. If you worry, don't pray." Since I do not ever care to worry, prayer came through again. - Jim
