You might try Picasa from Google. It has some decent, but basic, editing capabilities and it's free. Also try photoshop.com, FotoFlexer or FlauntR.

If you have a Canon Scanner it probably came with Photo Studio. I have used that program for several years with several different scanners. It is very good and a free program with a scanner.
If you are looking for a good down sizing program. PIXresizer is very good and easy to use. http://bluefive.pair.com/pixresizer.htm
They also have free image editing software at that site.

I use IrFan.. It is an editor where you can edit them directly on your computer, THEN upload them wherever you want.
I have used Picasa, Webshots, and Smilebox. There is too much overhead editing pictures online.
IMO I find editing them on your own computer FIRST and not online is much faster since you don't waste lots of time with uploading/downloading as you make your edits.
Good luck with your application search.

I think you'll find that Picasa is not an online application - it is downloaded and runs directly as an application on your PC.

Then I have the name wrong because I don't remember - it was not Picasa that I used... It was some time ago, Then I used Webshots, then recently smilebox. I have also used other local editors, including free versions that came with my camera, scanner, another camera, and packaged with computers I have purchased.
I gave up on editing on-line and use IrFAN.
