Lighting

I am interested in putting some kind of track or pendent lighting above our island in our 2009 3400RL. I understand that we need to use 12volt. The lighting in that area is not to my liking for kitchen work also for decorating purposes I think all RV's could use a bit updating in the lighting department. We know next to nothing about electric. Can this be done and any suggestions of websites. Thank you for all of the wonderful info on this site.
p.s. a little birdie is starting to talk to us about selling our stick home in a few yrs. and going fulltime for a few years. Boy what a hard decission. hum!!!

If you look on line, I'm sure you can find 12 volt lights that will work. Look at RV and boat sites. There will probably be a bigger selection there.

As another option, they also make 12 volt light bulbs that are the same size as the 120 volt type. It allows you to use any residental fixture. You just wire it to a 12 volt switch. If you do just be careful of the total wattage. This is the web page. http://www.1000bulbs.com/12-to-24-Vo...d-Light-Bulbs/

Hope this is helpful - John

I purchased my LED rope lighting for under my counter from Sailor Sams. They are easy to work with.

We are looking at doing the same thing as soon as I can work again. We are looking at somethinh like this from Lowes: see light, this uses a GU10 light bulb but a replacement 12 volt is available, check with the ligting guys at the store. Works for me.

The newer Big Sky model has 3 pendant lights over the sink in the 340 model. They look very nice. You might want to see one at a dealer for options.

I didn't think we had enough light over the island and too much over the entry (attracting lots of bugs in the evening). I switched them around.
The three pendant light now sits over the island and the standard RV light with the switch sits by the door. I now have a bit better lighting over the island and I can turn off the light over the entry when the bugs are out.

As suggested you may be able to convert some standard 120V fixtures to 12vdc with the correct bulbs.

Also look up Cantalupi. They make high quality lights for the boats market that are 12V.

Not cheap but????

JimF, I have talked to our Lowes and internet searched for a 12V bulb with a GU10 base and struck out both times. I did find one bulb that was 20 watts but $10 each. Do you have a number for the bulb you found? what is it's wattage? thanks

When I atempted to install a 12V fluorescent fixture over my sink it caused the fridge to shut down when the new light was turned on. Hard to explain why but it caused a lot of concern for a few days till I discovered what was causing the fridge to malfunction. In my 09 3075 the 12V line to the fridge is on the same circuit as the fridge control. In my previous 07 3075 the fridge was on a separate circuit and the fluorescent light worked fine.

Lighting over the sink counter is bad. I replaced the 12v light fixture with a 15" LED stripe light. Since I fulltime most of the everyday lights I use have been replaced with LED's. Pricey but good source is http://www.superbrightleds.com/
