rear kitchen model - Montana Owners Club

We are considering buying the 2006 3000RK model but are concerned about the extent of the possible disruption/damage to items in both upper and lower cabinets of this rear kitchen model. Does anyone have experience with this? Also, thoughts on possible problems with refrigerator wiring/systems dislocation due to the rough ride in the back would be appreciated. We love the "feel" of this model but are concerned about practicality. Thanks so much.

no problems with wiring in our 3295 RK.

dishes did move a bit before we installed air pin. The closer you pack gear, the less movement, in a general way, course, all rules meant to be broken. never pull again without some kind of air hitch or air pin

pull a search on MOC, see top of page, and search archives as well. has been discussed MANY times before you will get some good info that way.

HI GLEASON - Christa and I have a 3650RK.... Nothing breaks when traveling, we have had no problems with the unit. A lot more counter space... Your not going to have any more problems with that unit than the front or mid kitchens. You just have to use your head and not take the side of a mountain up to the top. TAKE THE ROAD... and you need to use some gray matter when packing... that goes with any unit you buy. Good Luck

remember the new 06 Montana models have the Mor-Ryde suspension and that along with the add on the Mor-Ryde pin box should greatly reduce or eliminate the "rear kitched"problem.

No matter what kitchen layout you buy, a few simple actions will help with spillage. Rubber shelf matting helps to keep cupboard contents in place. A thorough check of all cabinets to make sure that they're closed tightly before you close up the slides helps, too. If some doors tend to open over rough roads, the tension rods that go in cupboards help to keep things from falling out. I also use them in our 'frig and check to see that it is latched before traveling. Pick the Monty that you like. They all ride very well.

Welcome Gleason, We have the 3000RK and have no problems. No matter what model you choose, you still have to some what pack your things for the ride. I've drove on roads were I thought we were gona be missing the whole camper and still nothing broken. Pick the model that fits you. Enjoy life.

No problems with our 3295RK either. A little precaution can go a long way. Furthermore, if you are not going full timing, then I would suggest that plastic plates would truly be the most you would ever need. I have camped all of my life and never had a need for anything more…

We have a 2006 3295RK that we got at the end of January. It has the Mor/ryde axles, which I made sure to get. We made a deal on an earlier 2006 that the dealer said was the same, but when we got to the dealer in Jacksonville, FL, no upgraded axles. So, we swapped for the later 2006. Bottom line - ride is very good as evidenced by nothing moving around on the trip from Jacksonville to Seminole where we are staying. If you get a 2006, I would make sure you get the Mor/ryde axles.

We have a 3295 rear kitchen and is a 2004. We had a cup, plate, and dish break one time in a year. We put the soft shelf liner in and between the dishes and have not had a broken one since. Nothing moves around in the rear kitchen than on other 5th wheels we have had with mid kitchens. Husband hit a really hard deep place in the road when we had the broken dishes and there was nothing in between the plates. We have hit bumps since but the soft stuff in between the dishes must help.

We have a 2003 3295RK and have never had a problem with breakage!! We love the model so much that we ordered a new one and will pick it up in April when we get back to Iowa. We do put a turn buckle on the cupboard doors where the heavier can goods are located,
as a precaution. We fulltime and have been from Iowa to Arizona, back to Iowa, to Montana, and then reversed it all this last year with nothing broken. We have no plastic dishes either!!

We have the 3650RK. We have only moved it about 1200 miles so far but no problems with breakage or things getting tossed around.

Just to put in my 2 cents worth - we have a 3295 and the only time we broke any dishes was on Interstate 90 going across Minnesota - man that is the roughest piece of road in the country!

HAHA, try I 94 around Battle Creek Michigan, broke the TV loose. Or, try I 10, in Louisiana and Mississippi, that one opened the doors over the desk and sent stuff to the floor.

Have done part of the I 90, and have to agree, it rates right up there with the best of the worst. We had to slow down a BUNCH, and thanked our stars that we only had a short run on it!

I 20 coming west on the east side of Sheveport ain't on my favorite hunks of road either.

But, that is another thread, and I believe if anyone would search the archives, they will find a number of roads that we Montana poeple would like to stay away from!

My opinion is that rear kitchen is a non-issue. We have put well over 40,000 miles on this rear kitchen Montana and have broken one dish. We then learned to put a little of the nonskid between glass bowls to keep them from banging together. We have glass bowls in three sizes stacked in the rear overhead cabinet and have had no problem with them. Nor the stacked glass measuring cups. Nor other items. It is a non-issue in our experience.
