Recent Threads v. Today's Posts

I have been using the "Recent Threads" tool to see what has changed. I prefer it as it positions you to the newest posting that you haven't seen. Today there were 16 posts that had changed since I last checked.

On a whim, I then clicked on "Today's Posts" to see what was there. I usually don't use this function as you have to page through the identified postings to find the latest update. I was surprised to see there were 5 more "unread" posting listed here which did not appear in the "Recent Postings" list. The picture below shows those "missing" posts (everything after Tst 507)

Does this mean the "Recent Posts" list is limited and you need to use "Today's Posts" to see everything which has changed since your last visit? Or is it a software glitch which needs to be corrected??

The recent threads display on the side shows a finite number of entries as the display block is limited in length. Todays posts shows a longer list.

So it behooves us to use the "Today's Post" function when the forum gets busy this Spring? The traffic will quickly exceed the 16 post length area of the "Recent Threads" frame. Is it possible to have the "Today's Post" function operate similar to "Recent Threads" (i.e. position you to the latest unread post in the topic thread)????

New Posts (just to left of Today's Posts) works better for me in case I miss a day.

Something I would like to see is a "return to top" tab.

But "New Posts" only shows brand new topics (posting) and not updates to existing topics (main posting). You will be missing a multitude of comments made after the original posting which you looked at.

For example: I last looked at the forum last night. This evening there was 12 brand new postings displayed with the "New Posts" function. However the "Today's Posts" function shows those 12 *PLUS* 13 more topics (posts) which had new comments added.

Not for me. This topic came up this morning by hitting New Posts, so it does show updated topics and it went to the post just under mine here.

New Posts will show all new posts since your last visit except your posts.

Today's Posts will show all new posts since your last visit including your posts.

Adios, Dirk
