Awning rolled up incorrectly

We had a wind storm in Arizona and had to wind up our electric awning in a hurry, now it is not rolling up evenly and when I retract it one end is rolled tight to the trailer while the other is a couple of inches away. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Did you make sure it is the same distance from both ends on the roller? It may have slipped and is not square and rolling up at a angle.

Could be that one arm has a tight screw down and the other is loose when they're both supposed to be loose.

Checked the distance the awning is from each end and seems to be about the same side to side, neither side was different as far as tighten the knobs. The awning extends completely both sides but when it retracts one side is tight the other out an couple of inches. My main concern is that it might unravel while travelling.

Try cycling 6-8 times. Take notice when the alignment issue occurs.

If the windstorm was serious enough, it may have bent or twisted the retracting arms a bit while it was extended. That may be the reason for it wanting to pull to one side. Hope that helps.

And if your awning is the type that has a gas strut on each arm...check to see if each strut is functioning. You may be able to "feel" the resistance of the strut on each side as you try to force the awning upwards on each side. Make sure that each arm tightening knobs are very loose before you lift on the awning tube at each end. When all else fails, have someone watch the awning slowly roll up to see if there are any visual clues as to the problem. John
