Extended storage

Well folks, the military has caught up to us and we'll have to move out of our Monty and place her in extended storage for at least 2 years as we move to Japan.

I have an indoor storage site selected, the standard precautions of no food, no chemicals inside and battery tender to keep the battery fresh when the storage maintenance guys needs to recycle the hydraulic autolevel system. Also plan to keep the fridge doors, open, the water drained and the fan-tastic vents cracked open for venting. I do not plan on keeping power applied to the rig but have that option.

Any suggestions for things I've overlooked?

I would have the storage folks put a bucket of water in there every couple of weeks so the wood doesn't dry out to the point of cracking.

I would flush out all the holding tanks several times, lubricate generously all slide seals, and since a two year storage period, would consider putting the rig on blocks.

X2. I would also add a cap or two of Calgon to each tank as you fill it then dump it. The Calgon will help clean the valves so they won't glue themselves in whatever position you leave them.

The AF does have a propensity to make YOUR plans ThEIR plans. In my 23 years, I had 13 PCSes including remotes in Alaska, Thailand, and
Vietnam. Still, I miss the life and commeradery with my fellow EOD members.

Pull the batteries out of your remote controls, smoke detector, CO detector, flashlights, and any thing else that may have them. Old discharged batteries sometimes start leaking and ruin whatever device they are in.

Screen off or cover outside louvers on water heater, heater, Frig vents, oven vents. Wasp and spiders will invade them if left open.

Any fabrics left, like towels or sheets, clean, place in plastic bags, maybe even those "suck the air out of em" kinds, if nothing else, press as much air out as you can.

Fabric sheets in all drawers, closet shelves, multiple sheets is ok.

I would clean out the frig VERY well, dry well, and stuff with crumpled newspapers and CLOSE the doors. If your help is going to move those slides those doors may bump around, and may slam shut anyway. I leave frigs like this for MONTHS, coolers for several years, and when I go to reuse there are no smell issues, quite the contrary, they smell just fine. 8.5 months and I pulled the newspaper, started the frig and loaded the frig, nothing else was necessary. The trick to this is you must have that frig VERY VERY dry before you close it up.

Ref your comment of drain water. I would blow out all the lines and add RV Antifreeze even if you are not in a freezing storage situation. I like the idea of liquid in the lines preventing air from letting things grow. Same with the drain traps.

Lube the seal in your toilet, fill the toilet with water or RV antifreeze and cover with plastic wrap. Or have the storage folks make sure there is some water in the toilet at all times.
