Pressure Regulators

So what is everyone's thoughts? Use one or not? I have always used one, but I find with using a water filet inline AND a pressure regulator, the pressure really seems to drop. So I'm thinking I might just not use one anymore.

Been fulltiming for 5+ years with my 2012 and now my 2015 and have only used one once WITH the water filter and the pressure was terrible so I never used one again and we have stayed at hundred's of Resorts and never a problem and neither have my friends that RV with us Just my experience,I am sure some folks out there have had a pipe blow or something(maybee on this Forum) but I have never meet them

If you have the typical Tetford toilet, they are pressure sensitive, as they don't like too much pressure. With too much pressure (approx 60 Lbs) there is a good chance the water inlet valve may not close completely allowing for an overflow condition. Happened to us when we thought the pressure was OK and didn't install our regulator, won't connect to water now without the regulator inline.

I built a water filter with regulator and pressure gauge. One time, when I connected the water, the gauge pegged at 100 pounds. I will use it every time. Using the reasoning that it never happened before can also apply to auto insurance. If I've never had an accident, why carry it?

We always use one whether we need to or not (because we don't have a pressure gauge). We do think the shower water pressure isn't quite enough, however.

We use the regulator with the gauge, and the regulator is adjustable. Gives us much more flexibility. Some places have pretty significant pressure that I'd hate to subject to the rig to. We limit pressure to around 55 psi.

Good to know.
Any time I use a pressure regulator with my filter to the pressure always sucks in the coach.

To those complaining of low pressure with a regulator and filter, you should have the filter on the input side and then the regulator. That way whatever pressure drop you get with the filter, you can still control the pressure that actually enters the Monty. I am sure many have figured this out already, tho.

I find the pressure varies between campgrounds quite a bit so we always use one. Sometimes it's needed and other times not so much, but it's part of the process.

Tom are you suggesting water into the filter first then the regulator? I always experienced the drop when I hade the regulator installed at the post, ran from that to the filter then to coach.
I did notice some improvement if I ran the water to the filter first then the regulator, but I can no longer do that now that I have the filter hard piped to the coach.

Once in La Macia in New Mexico and once in Missouri we were in campgrounds with 100+ water pressure. Have seen several rigs with water leaking from the bottom of their rigs because they thought they didn't need one.

We do the same. We always use our adjustable pressure regulator with gauge. It's set at 55psi as well.
I don't need to create problems for myself. I have all I need now.

I use one and found that if you have one with bad gpm (gallons per minute) flow rate you will notice it. I purchased one with the greatest gpm I could find and it makes a big difference. I don't have any problems with weak water flow.

maybe that's it, perhaps my GPM is down. Ill look into that as well.. not sure why I didn't think of that, but then again., that's why I started the thread, to get ideas

Question - If you use a 5 gal/min filter, why would you need a pressure regulator too? Just curious. I know we have horrible pressure, if you use both. Of course, we always had the regulator at the faucet and the filter at the fiver.

My filter is only 2.5 GPM, im wondering if the regulator I use is more restrictive, it does not have a GPM on it. I do know that when I have the water going to the filter FIRST, then the pressure regulator, its seemed to be a lot better. But now that I have the filter hard piped in the unit, instead of outside the coach, I cant do that setup anymore.
I do know the Pressure and flow are 2 different things, higher pressure doesn't necessarily mean higher flow. I am a firefighter, and know all this too well. We flow our master streams at 1000 GPM To get that amount of water, we flow at about 125 PSI. If there is a valve or nozzle issue, you can still be at 125 PSI, but that GPM will drop way down to 400 or 500 GPM, and that makes a big Difference.

If you compare the inside diameter of those straight water regulators to the better adjustable units gauge, you will see a difference. Also the camco evo filter has 3.5 gallon flow rate while still providining better chemical filtering. I run two filters plus water softener and still have good pressure. Have also seen park pressures at 75-100 lbs. John
