2016 Monty 3160rl electrical question

Just a quick question, what switch in your Montana controls the amber exterior light under the steps? On all my previous campers it was always switched on with the porch light but on this one, it is connected to the door side scare light. I didn't know if this is suppose to be like that or if someone attached it to the wrong switch during assembly.

My amber light at the steps is the same as yours. Comes on with the scare light on door side. You could probably change it to the porch light switch if you wanted to.

I'm thinking either way is possible. It would just depend on a manufacturing decision where the assembler decides that the step light should come on when MORE light is desired like when turning in the scare light.

My vote would be that it should come on with the porch light since they are both amber and benefits exiting or entering the rig, and while providing more light in that area being amber means it attracts less bugs. The scare light provides too much light and I feel the need to turn it off overnight because it is too bright and don't want to disturb the neighborhood.

The best option would be to have a totally separate switch, but who needs ANOTHER switch'/wiring/fuse to worry about.

I will look into changing it to the porch light switch as soon as the weather warms up some

It is wired to the door side scare light. After comments at the rally and from owners it has now been changed to the porch light (which makes more sense). We rewired ours to come on with the porch light. So, if you have a newer unit it probably comes on with the porch light.

Our 2014 3725 step light came on with the "scare" light. There are actually three lights that come on, the step light, the scare light, and on ours, the LED light over the hitch. NOT the "cap" LED lights, that's another switch entirely. We did NOT like all the glaring light from the scare light, so I did some modifying......I removed the scare light. Since we fly "old glory" all the time, and the pole is attached to the trailer, I removed the scare light and installed a 12 volt landscape spotlight in it's place. I have it aimed so it illuminates the flag during the night too. That way I am observing proper flag flying etiquette. Also, I like the step light on at night, as well as the LED over the hitch. Keeps me (and others" from running into it in the dark.

Ron, where did you access the wiring to change this light to the porch light. My 3160rl is a early 2016 so it is currently hooked to the scare light along with the hitch led
