Welcome to the MOC. The Montana models I have owned DID NOT have built in water regulators. I use cheap ones from Walmart and replace them every year.
The cheap valves on the black flush systems are known for failing, even though mine never has. I decided early on to use the Flush King attachment so I wouldn't have to rely on the Keystone installed flush system.

I am also careful to hook up to a water pressure regulator (a separate one that is NOT used for potable water) when hooking to the black tank flush.

Use of a water pressure regulator is a must. Many choices out there. Like others, I avoid the black flush because of valve failures, and use a backflush attachment as well at the sewer hose connection, with external dump valve. Works far better anyway.

We use a good water pressure regulator. We also removed our backflow preventer valve installed by Keystone in the rig and use an exterior one on the black tank flush now.

So DQDick, did you remove the BFP under the bathroom sink by just putting a straight sharkbite fitting to reconnect the pex tubbing and then putting a hose bibb vacuum breaker on the black tank flush connection in the convenience center?

That is exactly what I am going to do with mine. My 2010 rig leaked at the BFV and make me crazy trying to find where the water was comming untell I read about it here. Cut the line both sides of the valve shark bite connector and a hose back flow on the inlet. Simple no more problems. JMHO

Exactly and I use one of these I got at a hardware store on a short hose I use only for flushing: http://www.amazon.com/LASCO-05-1763-...flow+preventer
Like all my connections, the black tank flush and the small hose both have quick disconnects for easy of use.

I have the same thing DQDick on my Black Tank Flush connection in the convenience center, but I haven't removed the BFP under the sink in the Bathroom. Thanks for the info...I will know what to do when it fails.

Why wait. I dumped mine when it was three weeks old. Didn't feel like waiting for it to lock up or leak all over the place.

I was getting no water thru the flush system. I just took the backflow preventer apart and took out the little marble thing in it and have no problems with the flush now.
I do need to get a backflow preventer tho - on my list.

I used the cheap in-line regulator for the first year, but too little pressure and flow, so I got my new regulator from https://www.rvwaterfilterstore.com/.
These folks were very helpful. I got all my filters and regulators from them. I got the Watt adjustable regulator with meter and now have my regulator set for 55 PSI and all my pressure and flow problems are solved. Keep in mind the type of filter you select can mess with the flow and pressure. I have my regulator after my filter.

The water filter store is a great place to purchase water filter systems, regulators etc. They know RV's.Been buying from them for years.

I'm going to have to show my ignorance, but here goes. We bought our 3400RL in Aug 2006. I always us the black tank flusher...never had a problem. So where is the BFP and what does it do? Thanks.

If there is a sudden drop in water pressure it's supposed to keep black water from siphoning back into your fresh water hose. Restaurants and other food service facilities are required to have the kind I use on any of their water outlets. Keystone over the years have used either a black or a clear one and they have failed on many occasions normally causing a leak, but sometimes closing the line. Now as to where they put it, that's a good guess. Many are found under the bathroom sink, others behind a pocket door, still others behind a closet or pantry wall. Ours was under the sink.

Dick - Is that breaker the type that spits the water out when you shut it off or not?

When the back flow preventer failed on my black flush system I discovered that small black pieces had gotten in the valve jamming it shut. The pieces were likely small pieces of the tank they cut through to install the flush line. the system worked for 5 years before failure. I took off the back flow valve, blew out the trash pieces with air, and re-installed it. All is good with zero leaks.
