Rear Escape Window Bracket Breaking

This is the second time the rear escape window handle bracket has broken. It looks like the movement from the frame keeps twisting
back and forth and breaking the bracket that fastens to the window
that pushes out. Has anyone else had this problem and what have you done to fix this problem?? Does keystone know of this problem??
Any help would be appreciated.http://montanaadministrator.forumco....icon_mi_12.gif

There are several threads on this from the past. Ours broke on our new 2014 and it took several months to get a replacement. If the NHTSA would not have gotten involved I think we would still be waiting for the new handles.

Have your dealer contact Keystone. There is a new design out from Lippert. Or, you can contact Lippert direct at their customer service number and ask for the window section. At rally, I talked to the Lippert Rep and they are sending several out.

We are stopping at Lippert next week to have their steps installed on our Montana and to replace the latch on our rear escape window also. Did not have time to get it done during the Rally last week.

So I guess I'm not the only one sounds like this has been
A problem with others that Lippert knows about.
If we did not see the window open and started driving
It could have opened and maybe flew off and into some
Other car and caused an accident or worse.
I will call Lippert today and see what they say.

Stopped at Lippert yesterday morning to get our new steps installed and they replaced my rear escape window latch with no questions asked! They said they will cover it under warranty. While the tech was replacing it I managed to talk him into giving me an extra latch in case it breaks again.

I talked with Lippert they will send me a new bracket and slide bar as good will. But they say this has not been a problem.
I don't believe it. Because they never admit to problems. I asked
what is the fix so it won't happen again. I think it is the twisting
of the frame from side to side that makes it break because there is no
give and they are aluminum. I never had a problem with the side escape windows because there is no twisting on those. Maybe mounting that rear window one on rubber mounts so it has some give to it think it may help
I'll let you know when I get and install it how I did it. I'll keep you
posted.

When the window tech replaced our latch he said it broke because the installer at Keystone/Montana did not put it in straight. He drilled 2 new holes and moved it over about 1/4" and said that should take care of it.

Funny part was when he was finished we were talking and I asked him where is the window assembled. He said it is shipped to Keystone fully assembled ready to install in the 5th wheels at the factory. So that makes his original reason/excuse rather lame and BS! Oh well, at least it is repaired and they stood behind it with no questions asked and I am very happy!!
