Surround sound
Should the surround sound be on whenever the TV is on, or does something else need to be done to get it to work
John

We have a remote control for our surround sound which you have to turn on. You have to select what you want it to control as it also controls the sound for the AM/FM radio CD player.

Depends also if the TV is even connected to give audio output to the sound system. Mine was not. Don't know about newer ones. I connected an audio cable from the TV audio output Jack to the sound system audio input jack. And have to turn on both when viewing TV.

If your's is set up like ours was the surround sound only worked with the DVD player and not with the TV. I changed TV's, SAT controller and a bunch of wires before I got it to work the way I wanted it to.

On my 2012 Samsung system I did get the Surround to work for the TV and for sure you have to have the HDMI cable but for the life of me i cannot remember what settings I put it on in the sound settings on the Menu on the TV... DANG! my memory is SHOT man Sorry John but anyway it took me awile to figure it out when I first got my 2012 but I finally did so it is possible, on my 2015 SONY it is easy you just put the DVD/Bluray player on TV "DEMO" setting
