Can anyone tell me where the converter is located in a 2006 Mountaineer? and how best to get to it.

Somewhere near the floor is a brown box that has a cover that opens from the top and swings down. That is generally called the electrical distribution panel. Depending on the brand used by Keystone, the converter would be located right behind that.
