TST 507 saved me today

On my way home from the CAT scale today, and about 2 miles out my TST alert tone went off. It was the passenger side rear trailer tire, which indicated down to 95 psi. Got home and sure enough, I had a large bolt into the tire. Went to the local tire shop and the bolt was at least 1/2" in diameter and 4" in length. The hole was to big to be repaired and so I ordered a new Sailun on-line. It was this forum and it's members who suggested the TST system and I am really grateful for reading about it and purchasing it.

I think a lot of us with tire monitors have been saved by them. I was saved when my tire went from normal to 40 lbs in about 1 minute and from 30 to flat on the ground in another minute. My truck monitor also saved me on the truck one time. Similar situation. 80lb to 40 to 20 to 0 in about 5 minutes.
Sort of like the TV ad - 'don't leave home without it'.

That's great. IMHO, with the weight of these rigs, you really should have a TPMS. It likely saved you a great deal of damage if the tire had blown.

One of my friends, who has not bought one for his 5th wheel, now realizes the importance of having one. That warning can save you from catastrophic damage if a tire shreds. I learned once from my first 5th wheel I had..........$3,500.00 in damage.

Glad you caught it. We love our TST. We had the original (non-user replaceable batteries) and switched to the newer system. Upgraded to the newer model. We’ve had TST for over 10 years

My TST monitors alerted me to an issue two times in the past couple of years. Both times it was a failed valve stem, once on a trailer and once on the RV. Both times the alert gave me ample time to get safely off the road and change the tire without causing a bunch of damage to my rig.

I just finished changing batteries and putting my sensors back on my new fiver. I won't travel without them.

This reminds me that I need to do a battery change with ours plus set up the extender in a more permanent place.

Just a question - is the color monitor worth the $106+/- upgrade cost or is it just nice to have?

Looking at Amazon, they list the TST 507 with the 4 sensors and a color monitor for $368.00. I don't know what the non color monitor looks like, but the color one is easy to read and see. The battery life is really good on the monitor too.

IMO, don't need to waste the extra money on a color monitor. I'm another long time TST 507 user and the new system and better (B&W) monitor is very nice. I went with the flow through sensors this time around.
I was pleasantly surprised to find out I didn't need the range extender with my rig...

Thanks. I was just wondering if the readout was any better. I have a ScanGauge as well and both in certain light conditions are not the easiest to see. That 106 bucks just to have a color monitor can be used elsewhere.

I have always had intermittent readouts on the passenger side rear tire so went with the range extender.

I also found that my spare batteries for the wheel sensors are 5 years out of date. New ones are on the way

It saved me already 4 times in the last 3 years

2 x broken brakes were scattering inside the drums on long highway stretches. Temperature increase and set off the Temperature alert.

2 x Intrusions of a screw and a nail.

I think I got my money out of this device

The color readout may very well provide a clearer picture, but in my experience so far, the B&W readout on the new larger monitor is quite adequate.

I find that sometimes one or two of the tires takes a while to start registering on the monitor, but eventually they all show and update just fine. Great system!

That RR was so intermittent that it was useless and why the repeater. Of course the only one I've had a flat with, luckily at low speed and noticed going low as I backed the trailer in my driveway.

I'll just install fresh batteries in the sensors and go with what I have. Probably not going far again this year anyhow since Covid hasn't gone far enough away even with shots and a wife with an immune disorder

If there wasn't an option for a color screen, I doubt anyone would even think about it.

The repeater seems like a necessary item to insure you have proper connection. Pretty easy to install by your battery box. Mine hooks up to the monitor really quickly.

I have a TST system also. I think I read somewhere that without a repeater, if a sensor stops sending a signal, the monitor just displays the last reading for a long time. Don't remember the details tho. I got the repeater because about once every 2 or 3 days, my right rear sensor would drop off for an hour or 2. Even with a new battery.

Good info regarding the repeater...for me, once my pressure sensors connect to the monitor, they stay connected no problem.

But that might well be a valid concern regarding the slow response to a sudden change in either temp. or pressure...

I do have the repeater, just never saw a need to install it, but I may rethink that.

After my first blowout, no extra damage to speak of thank God, I installed my TST system. Only went off once in three years now when we passed through a storm front and the temperature dropped over 30 degrees. Luckily a false alarm due to the tires cooling so quickly... all I can say is.... Peace of Mind!
