2nd AC install

Took the Mountaineer in for some warranty work, and gave the dealer GREEN LIGHT for the second AC install in the bedroom, Duo Term Low Profile w/heat strip. Time estimate 2 hours ( no pre wire )

Got a call that the time estimate would need to be revised up to 6 hours ???

Thoughts?

They are smoking crack.
Was it pre-wired for the A/C?
I did mine, 2 hrs is right if pre-wired, 4 if not.
Talk to the service manager, let us know what he said about the additional time.

OZZ- Thanks

No big mistake not haveing the factory pre wire... I am tempted to just run the wire myself.. I work a lot less that the $115.00 per hour dealer charge

Hey Rodney, let us know how this goes. As you know I'm thinking of doing the same thing. I'm leaning toward doing it myself and running the wire through the front closet down to the basement where I would plug the 2nd a/c into a separate outlet. My thinking is many of the campgrounds we have been too only have the 30 amp service, plus an additional 20 amp outlet at the post. I could then plug the 2nd a/c into the 20 amp outlet and run both when there was no 50 amp avail. If there was 50 amp available, I would still do the same thing. Your thoughts?

Good Morning Bruce.....

Good way to go.. I was hoping to hard wire mine into the breaker panel .I am not to happy w/the dealer right now. I am just about ready to make this a do-it-your self project. I will be looking at different routes to take inside to the breaker box, or as you are considering a route to the front.

The A/C low profile unit can be purchased on the web for $700.00 +/- then ad a few dollars for wire. Their are some good posts about mounting the unit....Sure wish the pre-wire was in place...

Oh well---good winter project

Happy Holiday's

Look online at the duo-therm website. If you don't have one, you can download the install manual to see if it is within your abilities to self-install.

That stinks that there is no prewire; was honestly a 45 minute job. Getting it on the roof is the hardest part!
Best of luck to you!

Yep...Pre wire should be a standard item. Not worried about the install on the roof or tie in at the breaker panel...just routing the wire from the Bed Room to the breaker panel ???? I have no idea as to what I would find overhead or under in basement... any direction from my friends on the forum ?

The dealer will not budge from his 6 hr estimate so it's now a DO IT YOURSELF project.

Some have said that the prewire option also included additional re-inforcement around the roof opening. Is there any truth to that?

Also, I would like to know where I can get the low-profile Duo-therm for $700. The best price I have been able to come up with is $855 for the roof unit, inside unit, heat strip, and shipping.

I was not rewired and ran the wire myself to breaker box took all of about 2.5 hours to complete the whole thing. That included mounting the AC on the roof, that took about as much time so not to damage the roof membrane. Not easy job but heck of lot less than 6 hours to run wiring.

As soon as Ozz gets tired of traveling the country we need to talk him into being a traveling Monty Mods business let him go area to area making mods for us. Ozz I am up first for hitch and outside outlets.

Did you go forward ( with the wire ) looks like ( backwards ) over to the closet, then doen to the basement might be the best route, less rafters.???

Broome101,
We can get together, swap tall tales, have a few brewski's, and pretty soon we will have a job completed.
You are a handy guy, the Mod's really take alot of time, just do a little each time you have a break in your schedule.
Come on down to South Padre! We will be there in a little over a month.
RL, I wish I were familiar with your floor plan, and electrical, maybe members with similar floor plans can input.
