We use the CC all the time as long as we are running on the flat or a light down grade. On all upgrades and steeper down grades the CC is off. Never had a problem.

In our part of Texas it is mostly flat and it is easy to hold on cruise control so I do it every chance I get especially on the Interstates.

Like the rest we use CC on flat or mild hills, disable for the steep ones.

John,
Like the rest we use the CC and only turn it off when we notice a lot of downshifting to maintain speed.

Ditto for TT2,
I called Ford and they told me to tow with CC on and when it could not make up it's mind to stay in CC or down shift is when to turn ot off.

Likewise! I also turn off the tow haul on long flat freeway runs. I use the CC with the tow haul engaged on intermediate pulls but turn off the CC when it starts hunting for the right gears. Watch the RPM and feel the engine, old trucker trick. Learned from an old trucker back in the 50"s. BCC Thats Before Cruise Control.

Going to and from the Reno Rally, I used the tow/haul mode and set the cruise control all the way there and all of the way back. The only time it wasn't in CC was when going down steep grades in the mountains.
Otherwise, the Silverado cruised along at 67 mph at 2000rpm and only downshifted from over-drive to 4th when she started to climb a grade. On some of the steeper grades I would drop the ground speed to about 62mph and reset the CC, she'd drop to 4th and then down to 3rd if it had to to maintain 62mph.
That Duramax and Allison worked perfect together, never complaining, crying or whimpering. She never missed a beat. If I was more on my own time instead of Lippert's, I would have taken it more easy.
I think the Ford Power Strokers and Dodge Cummins should be able to do the same thing. All I know is , that on occasion I would look out the right hand rear-veiw and see a cloud.

I used to use the cruise control all the time except maybe where you would not use it solo either, like in twisty mountain roads where you constantly have to slow for the curves, etc.
But then the diesel prices went up and I discovered (watching the mpg readings on the dash) that I get better mileage going uphill if I kick it off cruise and let it slow down a few mph. The cruise will hold speed and that eats fuel. So now I'll let you guys pass me where before I'd hold the speed. The wallet talks to me.
