I just checked mine>i got 18.3 with a combo of city /hway not towing. Last time I checked my towing I was getting about 10. Not too bad for a truck with 200000+ miles. For a 4x4 it is geared high. 3.58 rear gear

I recently completed a 3500 mile round trip which included city, highway and mountain driving conditions at speeds as high as 75 mph. This was in a 1995 Ford Powerstroke, intercooled, automatic, extended cab, 4x4, 4:10 gear ratio, 68,000 miles on the clock, without the Montana in tow. Mileage average was checked at each refill resulting in a low of 16.7 and high of 19.8. Overall was 18.2

With 11,000 lb. loaded weight Montana in tow I average 12.5-13.5 in similar conditions at highway speeds of 62 mph.

I have a 1999 Dodge 3500 Dually with 89,000 miles with my Cummins Diesel w/Banks Power Pack and B/D Exhaust Brake pulling a 2004 Montana 3280 RL. I get 17 to 18 mpg around town with increased mpg on the Interstate while not towing. While towing I get between 13.5 to 14.5 mpg. I also have a 4:10 rear axle ratio. Happy with my Dodge Cummins.

I just got back from a short trip of 270 miles. When I filled up it took 28 gallons of diesel which figures 9.6 mpg. I guess I need to check with my dealer for adjustments?
I drove mainly 55 to 65 miles an hour and never once had it shift out of overdrive. I few small hills each way.
Any suggestions on how to improve the mpg?

You did not say how much of the 270 miles was at 65 MPH or if you had any head wind. 65 into a 15 MPH head wind is equal to driving 80 without wind. You will be suprised at the improvement if you don't exceed 60 MPH, makes 1-2 miles per gallon better for me.

I stay at 60MPH, and run the right lane to stay out of everyones way. I have found I lose about 1 MPG per every 2.5 MPH above 60. At 60 I make good time and I worry a lot less. I sure don't want to see 55 MPH speed limits again, but you do get better mileage at lower speeds. Just stay in the right lane.... it really irritates folks of you are a rolling roadblock in the center or left lane. With truck lane restrictions in many places, the center lane is their passing lane, and we are not making friends by driving slow in that lane. (Sorry, got off topic...)

Matt, both my '03 6.0 PSD and this '05 took that jump in mileage at about 30k miles. Before that it was a gradual improvement. At 30k it jumped 10-15%. The truck will turn 36,000 tomorrow, on it's first birthday. We've slowed the mileage rate a bit since the fuel prices jumped so high. Theh '03 hit 40,800 on it's first birthday.

I only have 9500 miles on my Dodge diesel. Maybe when I get it "broken in" the mileage will inprove. I checked my last tank and not pulling anything and driving 55-65 mph each way to and from work I am getting about 14 mpg.
When I take it to the dealer for the 10000 mile oil change and check, (dealer special), I'm see if they can find anything wrong.
Diesel in Gainesville, Texas has dropped to 2.97. Some stations are still at 3.29. With these prices we need all the mpg we can get.

Currently I get 16-17mpg running around town. Pulling the Monty I get 11 1/2mpg. Only have 6200 miles on the TV. Doesn't seem to bad and should get better.

We just got down to Cape Coral,Fl from Rochester, MN and we averaged around 12mpg. We had a high of 14mpg in Northern Illinois and a low of 11.6 going through the mountains in Tennessee. Unloaded we get around 22mpg. That of course is at 60mph. At 65mph unloaded, we get right at 20mpg. Not bad since the diesel only has 23000 on it. Loaded gas mileage was at 60-65.

In 3 trips to visit our son in Reno, we averaged 13.3 mpg towing with all stock 04 2500hd duramax chev with extened cab, long wheelbase.

Really love this truck, going over the Syskiyous (spelling?)in Oregon was a breeze. Doing 50-60mph all the way up and no problem coming down the backside.

Will be going to Ely, Nevada next year, where I started my highschool adventures at White Pine Highschool and where my best friend Phyllis (wife) lived at the time and I didn't know it.

We concsitently get 20+ mph not towing, I have a tonneau cover that goes on when not towing and seems to help alittle, haven't chekced the mpg with and wiothout cover though.

I tow my own Mountaineer, and I also tow rvs for a company out of Indiana. I have a 2001 Dodge dually diesel,6spd,4:10 rear end air bags with banks exhaust and a custom built air intake system.I tow at an average of 13.6 .With the trailer off and driveing 70 I get 20.6 . It seems to do better on unloaded trips at higher speeds.I run pure synthetic engine,tranny and rear end. We all have to remember that we are trying to tow a fully loaded condo down the highway.This is just my $.02 worth.Have a great day.

Pulling the Monty I get around 13mpg and empty about 17mpg. My dually has 4:10 gears and I find it worse on fuel than my 01 Dodge 2500 Cummins also with 4:10s. The difference was about 3mpg between the two trucks. I assume the dually has worse aerodynamics and weighs more than my 2500 as well.

I talked to my Dodge dealer and have an appointment to get my truck serviced this afternoon. They have a program adjustment for the 2004 cummings diesel that they said would increase the performance. I will try it out this weekend and see what difference it makes.

Diesel has dropped to 2.55 here. Still need all the mileage we can get at these prices.

The truck had 1000 miles on it when we started..Averaged @ 10MPG towing...It now had 4500 miles on it and last time we drove it got 14.3 no tow..It is getting better all the time..but will never be great..

I had the adjustment made to my truck's computer and the indicator went from 13 to 17 mpg. I filled up and running empty I was able to get 17.5. I hooked up and got 14.
I guess the Dodge people have an answer if you just ask.

I weighed my 05 f350,CC,LB Dually.V-10 4:30 Diff.Truck, Helen and I on board, Full tank of fuel, Fifth wheel hitch and assorted camper stuff in the back 7286lbs..that is a heavy truck.It has 4367 miles on it and is now doing in the low 13's MPG not towing.The MPG has been increasing with milage but I do not expect much, if any better.A friend of mine has a 05 F-350, V-10 regular cab, short bed, SWD and said ..Oh I get 17MPG on mine..no wonder..He has 1/2 the truck...My truck weighs more than our Terry TT did///// ye gods/////

Coming down to Florida from Rochester, MN, I got an average of 12MPG. I had a high of 14 mph near Morris IL, and a low of 11.3 near Near the TN/GA border. Empty we get about 22mpg.
