No problems. we tow a 2005 3475 Montana with a 2005 2500HD GMC 4x4 Crew cab with a Duramax. Just downshift out of overdrive when climbing hills. Your temp might climb a bit. We put an EGT gage on ours so I can watch the exhaust temp so I don't over stress the engine. The trans stays cool with the standard trailer package.

Welcome savit1, we tow a 2003 3280 with a GMC 2500 D/A with no problem. We do have a long bed but there are a lot of members with the short bed and they use a slider hitch. I know nothing about them but I know that some of them will be along soon and answer any questions that you may have.

We towed a 3295RK with my 2003 2500HD crewcab Duramax short box for about 20,000 miles with no truck problems whatsoever. Biggest problem is forgetting you have a trailer hooked on.

Had a 2003 2500HD Chev Silverado D/A with the short bed and now have a 2005 2500HD GMC Sierra D/A with the short bed and both were perfect for towing my 2955RL. There are many MOC members towing with that same combo. If you do stay with your 2001 short bed I would suggest the PullRite 16K SuperGlide Automatic sliding hitch. If you need info on the SuperGlide start another post.

This time you can trust the dealers ,dont worry attitude. Hey maybe you just found one of the few honest RV salesmen. If so hang on to him as they are hard to come by.

Savit1, I plan on a 2500HD D/A as a tv for my 3400RL. This Forum is the greatest source of info you could possibly have access to! Welcome!

As a suggestion, I'd keep your combo plans off OTHER forums. There are people who are not nearly as nice as you will see here, and they just lurk, waiting for someone to post that they use a 3/4 ton to pull anything larger than a little red wagon. They take great pleasure in ripping into those poor unsuspecting souls who unwittingly mention this. I call them "Chest Pounders" (like Tarzan). This forum, i found is all the help and guidance that I need as Cheryl and I move toward FTing in May '06 in our Montana. Again, welcome and enjoy!

We pull our 2950RK with a 2500HD D/A shortbed. Like Glenn said, I would look into the Superglide 16K by Pullrite. It is a little on the pricey side, but the peace of mind is "priceless". Like others here, the biggest problem we have pulling our Monty is remembering it is behind us.

Our 2500Hd GMC is a short bed 6 1/2 ft. We added a new Reese 18K signature series hitch with a slider which I have not used yet. The clearance is good with Montanas curved front cap.
