2005 Dodge Intercooler

Just a heads up out there My intercooler failed while pulling a big hill in Oregon. When trying to get it replaced at a Dodge dealer in Roseburg Oregon, they stated that they had none in stock, checked with Portland Parts Depot they were backordered three. For what reason except cheeper to manufacture the 2005s switched from a one piece welded aluminmum unit to one with crimped plastic tanks on each end. If you make too much boost it will uncrimp the plastic tank and walla boost goes to zero and egt goes sky high. Dodge has changed the part number on the unit and now are not making the plastic/aluminmum intercooler any longer. Back to one piece welded aluminmum.
Since we have been home I checked with my local Dodge Dealer where the parts Mgr. checked with Portland and now they are backordered 10. If you have an 05 Dodge you should see if Dodge is going to replace the faulty plastic units.
To solve my problem so i could get home I had Banks Engineering overnight one of their Big Hoss units to Oregon.

When did you buy your 2005 Dodge? My 2005 2500 Dodge Cummins 610 does not have the plastic tank. It is heavy duty aluminmum. I bought mine in June 2005. But, now I have a good excuse for the wife as to why I have to get one of them big jobs from Banks. I just will not tell her about the plastic verse aluminmum issue, just that I need to UPGRADE.

God Bless America
