No problem keeping you converter on while hooked to shore power. In fact that is how you keep your battery charged.

It depends on the type of application. Mine is always on when on shore. The only time I turn it off is at night when I'm dry camping. I have a solar package with a absorption fridge.


If you have a residential fridge it's not going to hurt it to remain on while on shore. It will be in bypass mode.

If you have one of the hybrid inverters it will add to shore power or your genny when your are asking for more power. Leave it on.

The invertor has nothing to do with charging the battery. That's the convertors job.

I leave my inverter ON whenever I'm actively using the RV. Off when stored only. The OEM inverter has a built in transfer switch so the inverted circuit in the RV uses the 12V batteries only when not connected to shore power. Leaving it on will keep you from accidentally forgetting to turn it back on during travel to keep the residential fridge running.

that does answer my question,i did think the converter charged battery our 2012 m0ntana did not have inverter and land power charged battery when hooked up it had dual frig.our 2020 331 has residential only frig. Thanks all

There are Inverters out there, such as the Magnum MMS 1012 that are Inverter/Chargers. With no shore power it supplies 120V from the batteries, when connected to shore power it switches to charger mode and helps keep the batteries charged.

As Michelle and Ann said, it depends whether yours is an inverter/charger or just an inverter. I have a 2019 3791RD that came with residential fridge and inverter. It is an inverter only, with a transfer switch that favors shore power over battery.
I leave mine on all the time (except when the rig is in storage) to keep the fridge running while travelling and in the event of power failure. It only kicks in with battery power when shore power is not present.

I have an inverter/charger that has separate on/off switches for each function. Based on information from an RV electrical tech, I leave the inverter off unless I'm going to use it. Even in the standby mode it is using some electricity and is subject to wear and tear.

Having installed my own solar system (did a lot of homework online, and living on a budget ) I installed a 3000 watt Renogy inverter on one side of my 50 amp system. I put in a 30 amp breaker between the inverter and the auto transfer switch I added, and I leave the inverter OFF when hooked to shore power. And I DO NOT use the charger on the inverter since when I am hooked to shore power my replacement lithium capable CONVERTER section charges my batteries when on shore. So the shore power is NOT hooked to my inverter at all. 4 x 200 watt solar panels, 2 x 40 amp mppt controllers, and 4 x 100ah litium batteries. A system wired so I can double it's size later. So far works great! and champion 4600watt dual fuel inverter generator for back up.
