If you are retired military, DOD civilian or 100% disabled veteran there is a FamCamp at Minot AFB. I have heard some bad reports on US-2 up that way because of the oil tanker trucks beating up the roads.

We went through Minot last fall and the road was fine going east on Hwy 2. I do not know about Hwy 2 west of town as we came in from the south.. We stayed at the Fairgroungs one night as we were traveling through town. They only have electric and water and no place to dump.

Last summer we travelled east on US 2 from Yellowstone to Williston. Road was good and a very interesting journey traveling the "Hi-Line". We stayed at Lewis & Clark State Park near Williston and it was beautiful.

Be sure and do the show at Madeira, ND. It is right at the entrance to Teddy Roosevelt National Park. Enjoy the west, and remember to pack for four seasons, even in the heat of summer.

We highly agree with Rames14, stop in "Medora". You can take in the Teddy Roosevelt National Park (the entrance is on the edge of town). There is a revue/show during the summer and this is an excellent evening. The outdoor theater and the view is superb. When we were there in 2012, there was an one man show, Teddy Roosevelt, at the old theater in town. This was an excellent show as well. He remained in character during the meet and greet following the show. There is a "white table cloth" restaurant in the hotel, the food and service was excellent. (If you cannot tell, we really enjoyed Medora). If the schedule permits, take a trip through the park around dusk into early evening. The animals and wild horses were out and readily seen.
Enjoy your trip and if possible get to Medora
