Basement Keys

It is my understanding that the basement locks on all Montanas use the same keys. Has anyone changed the locks so that the keys are unique?

Locks keep the honest people honest, if the thieves want in they'll just tear the door off.Just my .02 cents

Yup, any RV parts supplier can sell you locks. Unfortunately, the tradional locks can not oompete with a prybar or heavy screwdriver. The slam locks on the newer rigs certainly make it a little bit harder to break in, but not by much.

I know they only keep honest people out, but every bit helps, I changed mine and got them on line from one of the parts suppliers.

I replaced the standard 751 key locks with round keys unique to me. I ordered them from Industrial Lock & Hardware at Quartzsite.
Yes locks keep honest people honest and crooks know about the 751 so it is easy for them to get in with no evidence. If I have a breaking from a pry bar I have proof of unauthorized entry for insurance. Just my opinion.
Safe travels all.

Someone broke into several RVs in the storage facility where I keep mine several years ago. They got into my basement by using a screwdriver or similar device to open the doors. Only obvious result was the tabs on the locks were bent a little. No damage to the doors. Barely noticeable small mark on one door where they had pried it. Door on other side did not even have that. Doubt a thief would even bother with a key. I simply pushed the tabs back with my thumb and they are still there. Not very strong at all.

Yup. I did the same. I replaced all CH751 OEM locks with keyed alike barrel locks.

Hi

Putting locks on that can’t be easily picked will get your doors ripped open but if you keep an $10,000 insured item in the basement like I do it is much easier to get a clam paid if the door was axed instead of the licks picked.

Change of subject abit, but I just purchased a 5th wheel tailgate and the lock on it is a 751....sheesh!! Trying to figure out how to change it out. Also, Montana uses a 751 key on the AutoLeveler control box door...dunno why?? never had one on others...also on the 2 front basement doors where the batteries are, also 751's but the large basement doors are a different key... I use to put locks on my propane doors after had the stolen while in storage. My new Montana has now a locking ring for the tanks, which was a good idea..

Our rig came with the same basement keys that our last three RV's had used and they were by different manufacturers. Changed ours out 6 years ago.
