It's a wonder..........................
I am amazed at how much paperwork, juggling, handling and scheduling goes into a person getting a package, or mail, for that matter.
When you order something to be delivered, one just assumes it leaves the place you ordered it, and fly's directly to the street corner down the block, the delivery man just stops on the way home and drops it off at your door. (Well, a simple minded person such as I.)
But in the 'real world' it works something like the following.
I ordered a Windsock shipment, it is on schedule, not here yet, but here is the tracking:
Tracking Detail
Your package is on time with a scheduled delivery date of 01/22/2007.

Ozz,
I highlighted the above routing information, copied it into my cache storage, minimized the forum screen, opened Microsoft Word, opened a new document, pasted the copied information to it, printed it out on my laser printer, closed Microsoft Word, opened Streets and Trips, entered the town and state information in reverse order, ran the route planner, copied the directions into my cache storage, closed Street and Trips, reopened Microsoft Word (I should have minimized it earlier, I know.), opened a new document, pasted the copied information, deleted the routing information and kept the summary information, highlighted the summary information, copied it into my cache storage, closed Microsoft Word (again), maximized the MOC forum page, pressed "reply to topic," pasted the summary information then typed this leading paragraph, just to show you how many miles and days it would take to drive straight through the routing with just overnight stops. (puff, puff - out of wind) .
Thank God for UPS!
SUMMARY
Driving distance: 2980.0 miles
Trip duration: 6 days, 1 hour, 51 minutes
Driving time: 49 hours, 53 minutes
Cost: $219.94

Longwell, that is cool....the delivery companies have come a long way.
Thanks for your over the road routing, interesting, and it adds another twist to the distance.

I would be curious to know why the folks in Mesquite opted to turn your package around and route it through Oregon of all places. Ozz, let us know what the furthest point reached is before (if) it is finally delivered to you.

Ozz, I have to laugh now about my generator that was delivered by UPS. Can you beleive they LOST a 134lb package! I had to keep calling them to find it in their LOST & FOUND! I eventually got it, but it took 6 weeks for delivery!

Actually, it's looks backwards, it started in Oregon.
Emmel, you wouldn't think they could lose a heavy package, but I saw the amount of packages they run through, it's amazing.

Ozz -- You are a lucky man that you have a tracking number to track. I ordered some of this LENS DRx from "as seen on tv" as I thought that would be good to take scratches out of my safety glasses out in my shop. No more than it cost, couldn't hurt anything. Ordered 31 December, 2006. Haven't received it yet. I thought to myself yesterday 19 January, 2007, they sure are slow. I get out the paperwork and get the 800 number and give them a call. You know what you get is the favorite recording machine that says as soon as the next availabe person is free they will help you. The recording voice was in English. I waits about 10 minutes and get cut off. I redial again and after about 15 minutes a guy with broken English answers. I give him (Roger) my order number and he says it will be coming soon. I ask "Where are you located?" He says I am in INDIA. I said "Where do you get the Lens DR stuff from?" His answer was CHINA. His order hasn't arrived in India yet. I figured Oh well, I spend more money than that at the casino every week... Here I am thinking one of the down the street venders like you were OZ...JB

Yes, BillyRay, it seems to rule.
Deadeye, it is frustrating. You just hope to squeak through with no problems when you order something.
My brother had a package coming through the Post Office, Priority, but he doesn't have the tracking number, and no way, (This weekend to get it) frustrating.
At least I can see my 2 packages filtering down the U.S. like some pinball in a machine.
