Solar installation

Several folks have asked me to post pictures of our solar installation that Discount Solar did for us at Q. Here's a link to the relevant pictures: http://s1221.photobucket.com/user/DQ...?sort=6&page=1
Everything is pictured except the four panels on the roof and they are placed in a square on the back 1/3rd of the roof.
The INV breaker in the old box when shut off allows us to be plugged into shore power for the AC's etc but still run everything from the inverter that we normally would. That way we can save some money on electric bills when, like at our RV home base, we are charged for the power. Will it save us a lot, who knows, but we paid for the solar and any savings we didn't have before is worth something. Would we try to go without AC in the Kansas summer. I don't think so. Thus this is our best option.

Nicely done Dick. Glad you have joined the solar crowd! As for savings, well just the fact that you are not sending power thru the converter to charge your batteries will save you as I have already seen that difference. Every little bit helps!

If you don't mind my asking, Dick, what kind of price range would we be looking at to do the same thing?

Much cheaper if you do it yourself. It could also be done cheaper and still be a fine set up. Top of the line equipment and six AGM 6v batteries ran the price up. Two guys worked on this all day and then one guy for an hour or so the next day so if you did it yourself a lot of labor cost would be saved. I just don't trust myself with anything but basic electrical work. Total cost was $6,600. Besides the fact that they did good work another thing that can be said for Discount Solar (they were recommended by MOC folks) is that the original bid was $6,700 so they could have charged me a little more and didn't.

Dick, you can't do it until next tax season, but don't forget about your tax credit. http://www.dsireusa.org/library/incl...id=1&ee=1&re=1 Believe me, It's nice to get a lot of money back from the government. Nice looking system, BTW.

Alwims beat me to it....we are going to realize a nice tax savings this year on our set-up. I also just got our wind turbine before the end of the year and will be setting that up to assist the solar when it is overcast and it is windy!

Great point! Agree with it or not, once you've spent the money you'd be a fool not to take the credit.
