Slide mounted awning (Update)
Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone has mounted an awning on the large door side slide. The awning on the SOB that DW and I traded for the 3400RL was a 20 footer and we miss the extra room under the awning. I have seen a couple of rigs with this and was wondering if anyone would recommend or discourage this. Seems to me it would be a practical use of the space if the slide would support it. Thanks in advance for your comments and opinions. Tim

Two of our buddies in Florida run double awnings on the door side, with the second awning installed on the slide itself. No problems.

1retired06 Thanks for the info. Do your friends use the extra awning space very much? It just seems like a great place to put the picnic table where it'd be covered and in the shade but not in the way when entering and exiting the camper.

Tim and Dea,
We have an awning on our door side slide. I had it installed 2 years ago for extra room under and for protection from the sun. We park our unit in Florida in the winter and the evening sun really heats the living room from that side facing west. The awning with a sun screen attached reduces the inside temp quite a bit.
We saw these on an sob and thought, why not! I sit under it more than the big awning as I park my Harley under that one. We really like the difference it makes and also the conversation we get from having it.
The slide has plenty of support to hold the awning, but I drop the legs to the ground and tie it down when using so there isn't much stress applied to the slide.

Yep, we have the Dual Awnings and use them both most of the time. Works great when you're camping with Friends and it rains, gives us a lot more dry space.

We have two awnings on that slide, but we were just trying to keep the sun out of the windows. Have one on the other side also.

Steve & Patti thanks so much for your information and thanks to everyone else for your input. I think the second awning will be my next mod on the Monty! I hadn't really thought about the added benefit of reducing the heat when in direct sun, that sealed the deal when Dea and I were discussing it yesterday. I'll try to post pics after I have it installed. Again thanks to everyone for your information and hope to meet some of you in the future. Safe travels! Tim

Well the new awning is installed and looks awesome! It took Camping World over a month to get the project completed but can't complain too much since they did it for FREE!! This was something that they agreed to do as a way to win back my business and my faith in them after screwing up my brakes. I'm so excited and can't wait for spring so I can show it off and enjoy the extra shade . Some friends are already talking about doing the same to their rigs. I haven't taken any pics yet since I just got it back yesterday but will post as soon I take some. Thanks to everyone for your input and hope to meet you in our travels! Tim

Did you have a manual or electric awning installed?

Scott & Sue, I went with the manual awning since I wanted to be able to extend the arms to the ground. I figured that would get them out of the way and keep me from cracking my head. I also trusted CW with installing the awning but not with messing with the electrical system. I requested they use the 'flat' or old style arms in stead of the rounded arms because I believe they are a bit more sturdy. I have had both and prefer the flat ones. Tim
