Yellowstone

Thanks Everyone for all the replies and the help about the weather I may wait till late June to first of July for this trip. We really enjoy riding the Harley through Parks and sounds like would be nicer for that a little later. Richard

Just my opinion here Richard but I've been to Yellowstone many times towards the third week of May and the weather was fine. The crowds are less which is a big plus.

There is still snow up at Canyon Jct and the higher elevations but so what?

Sure the weather can be anything that time of year but I don't know if I'd let just that one issue scare you away.

The bison migrate from the lower valleys to the upper valleys as spring turns to summer. Often if you arrive in mid june they might be in the middle of the migration and not yet in places like the hayden valley and you wont see any.

The weather is definitely warmer in July but the crowds are three times as thick too so just keep that in mind when deciding what is best for you.

Another great time of year is the fall after the kiddies go back to school. Say the first 2 weeks of September. The crowds thin out but its still warm (ish) (warm can be a relative term when talking about Yellowstone)

For all the reasons Gkerlin stated my favorite time to see Yellowstone is also in September. Riding your motorcycle will be much nicer then because the crowds are gone and you wont be stuck in wildlife jams for hours. In fact I will in Yellowstone in September.

I read in a Yellowstone publication that due to budget cuts thye were delaying plowing the roads for 2 weeks plus not opening some visitor centers at all and cutting backs on hiring support people. We have spent 6 of the last 7 years in Yellowstone. We have stayed in Grizzley RV the last two years and will do so again. Great location. We normally go late in the season when school is back to avoid the crowds and the animals are active.

Great place to vacation. I can not wait to retire so we can spend a lot more time there. Enjoy your trip!
