As I stated in another post Lorraine and I mostly just ramble around in a state of confusion as to where we are going to be next...

BUT

now I need some help and I came to the best place for it. The MOC.

Now we won't be concerned about this for a few weeks yet so I am giving my MOC friends some time to help us on a trip we are not looking forward to. We will eventually be heading east on I-90 and, try as we may, we don't see any good way around Chicago. I remember last year, prior to the Fall Rally, that some of you had a plan for the best way around that Windy City and onto Goshen. How about sharing this info again.

Unless you need to go through Wisconson, slide down to I-80 (I-35 Minn-Iowa or I-129 S Dakota Neb/Iowa border).
I-80 will miss most of the Chicago traffic, and merge back with I-90 near the Indiana border. Hope that helps.

Just west of Chicago, drop down to Kankakee Illinois, then head east towards Bremen, then up to Goshen,

Just slow down on ALL railroad tracks, and enjoy the acres and acres of corn.

Will never do the Chicago 90/80 stuff again. This is primarily a 2 lane drive, not a lot of traffic, and so much easier on the nerves than Chicago.

Glenn it seems you have 3 possibilities. Our daughter lives in Elk Grove Village just 1/2 mile west of I-290. When we are headed east we will stay overnight at her house then take I-290 to I-294 to
I-90/I-80. Best time to travel is after 9 AM and on 290 stay in right hand lane as that is the lane you will enter 294 on.

2nd: Drop down to I-80 on I-39 in WI/IL then East. Last year in the Spring there was losts of construction on I-80 on Southside of Chicago.

3RD: Do like brother in law does. He leaves Central WI at 10 PM and then does the 290-294 route between 2-3 AM. No real traffic.

Don't take Hightway 30. We did that last year on our way to the rally. Never again. We came back on I-80 and it was fine. Busy and a little construction but nothing to white knuckle about. Didn't last long either. Just stay on I-80. Also, I-29/I-80 across IA is a lot smother that I-90/I-35 through Minnisota-really rough, I mean REALY rough!

Glenn, Last year we went I-80 to I-39 in central Illinois, then dropped down to Hwy 24 and went across on that to 15 and up to Goshen. That's dropping a little far south for some, but the 2 lane roads are good and it's a pleasant drive. Besides, it took us through the area where my dad grew up.

Glen last year we went I-80 near Chicago and it was not that bad. Would rather go that route than a zillion traffic lights on the smaller roads.
We are going I-80 to 15 south goes right into Goshen. After we get into Goshen is when we get confused.

Take I-80 and take 15 south to Goshen, then take a left on 4 also called 34 and also called Lincoln. Takes all way to fairgrounds.

Well Glenn ,looking at your map you have never been to the great state if wisconsin,, 1st you should stop by lambeau field and then proceed north into gods country in the 2 1/2 summer months to see it ,, then head for fl to enjoy the rest of the 9 1/2 months john
