Ink in the Carpet!

Lizzie Lou the four year old springer spaniel found a pen last night to nibble on.
Woke up this AM to a couple of very small ink stains on the carpet.
I made the mistake of trying to get it out with the product "Awesome" (the stuff Steve R. says works on black marks, and boy does it ever!) and water. This made it much worse and spread it all around. I was panicing!
My girlfriend called in the middle of all this and she told me to use hairspray. Well, I did and every single bit of the ink came out! Worked like a charm.
Thought this was valuable info to share...

Excellent. I hope I can remember this one.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

Glad someone mentioned the hair spray; brings back old memoris. When I was a yound lad and worked at the A&P one of my jobs was to change prices on the canned good. Most of older folks will remember when they used ink markers. Hair spray was the cleaner of choice on ink. I am sure if it will work on something like a Sharpie since those have a dying effect in the ink. Thanks for reminding me.

I wonder if this works on clothes also. I collect fountain pens and once in a while get some ink on me. I will have to try it next time.

Yes it does, Sue. Wayne always carries a pen in his shirt pocket and sometimes one will leak or he forgets to retract the point. You do have to scrub a bit before washing.

Do you recommend the aerosol/can type hair spray or bottle/pump variety? I stored a printer in a closet in my house and it leaked ink when it got moved and put on an angle.

I used the aerosol. It was difficult to use, as I had to keep shaking it and sometimes air would only come out. Try the pump kind, then let us know.
PS: Afterwards, the carpet is sticky, then soap and water, lots of water. Sop up by standing on a towel. I then took a comb to get the carpet looking normal again

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the alcohol in the hair spray. Good news is that the cheaper the hair spray, the better it works, (more alcohol additives). I've used both aerosol and pump both and the aerosol works best. But like stated before, it will leave things sticky, so you must wash with a little soap and lots of water after.
