Black Tank repair or replace?
Has anyone ever repaired a black tank instead of replacing it? Is that possible?

I have repaired two black tanks. I used fiber glass mesh and marine epoxy. Both instances the repair was good. I had replaced the original tank after the fix. The replacement tank cracked near the outleck neck one year after replacemnt. This repair has now held for three years.

How long did you have to let it dry? I assume it cracked but haven't been under yet to check it out. Do they useally crack on the bottom or top?

Have also repaired, using two coats of fiberglass patching covered by eternabond tank tape. There is a plastic weld tank repair product several on this forum have recommended.

I repaired our grey tank, which is exactly the same as the black tank. They are both ABS, and ours cracked in the molded v-groove on the bottom. I ordered Plasti-Mend directly from the company, and it worked great. I then added angle iron supports across the frame, in addition to the two braces already in place, but did nothing to support the tanks. I then added spacer blocks of varying thicknesses to the tanks which are supported by the braces. I have heard some just add a sheet of plywood under the entire tank. My post with photos is on page 6 at this link: http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...ms=tank,repair

If I should have to pull the tank, how are the vent and toilet pipe attached on the top? Do I need to cut them in the basement?
