Dumping Waste Tanks
Harbor Freight has Nitrile gloves for $9.99/100. Nitrile is stonger than latex and won't affect people with latex sensitivities.

We've used the Nitrile gloves and have to agree they are stronger. Also, easier to get off and on.

I will have to swing by and pick some up. I have always used a pair of leather gloves but, like the idea of these better. Thanks for the tip.

I think I was on another forum and someone told a story of camping in a high end campground and a ~$500K MH pulled in next to them. The fairly young couple had just bought this MH and they had never been camping before.
Everything was going good until about a week later, the couple noticed a smell coming from their MH. When they asked the neighbor if he could check this out, as this was their first camping experience. Of course, the neighbor immediately determined that the black tank was full.
When the neighbor explained the problem, and then when he explained about the rubber gloves and how to solve that problem, they looked at each other in horror. The neighbor left. 2 hrs later the young couple rigged down and left. He heard later that they had sold the MH.
The guy swears this is a true story. Guess they didn't have a very thorough PDI??? Otherwise the salesman would have discovered their aversion to rubber gloves...

Yes, you use rubber gloves so you can stay healthy to enjoy your recreational vehicle.

Oh... I see. I thought I was using them (I've camped in a class C, and a class A, a few times) because it was "fashionable", and because everyone else wore these... Didn't know they were actually supposed to be FUNCTIONAL!?

Well, the nitrile gloves we bought are blue, so you can be fashionable, too!

Wow!!! Colors! I'll probably wear them all the time. My wife will be so proud... I'll be the talk of the MOC rallies!

Hey Dave, maybe they thought that 500k unit came with a service staff to do "that kind of thing" I can just picture the look of horror on their faces when they found out they had to deal with their on feces.

I'm sure the look of disbelief on their face had to be a "Kodak Moment". I know there are some people who get into RVing and have no clue what to expect. Funny to us, probably not to them.
I believe I remember a sad case here on the MOC, where a husband and wife took off on their maiden voyage, only to be extremely discouraged by the rough ride they were experiencing. Can't remember all the details, but when they reached their destination, they decided to head back home. She took a plane and left him to pull the fiver back home. I believe they were going to sell it. Someone else here would remember the details better.

If you dry camp a lot, a macerator pump is a great thing to have. You can pump your waste into a friends bathroom toilet (if they'll let you). My uncle allows us to pump at his place in Victorville, CA.

Clicked on the wrong subject. This belongs in the macerator subject

You're alright, Orv. BTW, how do you run that at the toilet? Do you keep the handle down all the time you're pumping, or do you pump - flush, pump - flush, etc?

My wife does the flushing. But actually, since the macerator liquifies everything, when the liquid in the toilet reaches a certain level the liquid goes down. You can check this sometime by taking a pailful of water and dumping in toilet. You'll see that the water goes down without flushing. My wife is there....just in case!

Sounds like you got the "better end of the deal", Orv. Do you have to pay her for that, or hasn't it struck her yet that she may have been conned?
