Camping on the Outer Banks
We would like to go to the Outer Banks this spring or summer. Does anyone have a favorite Campgrounds or some suggestions.

There are a few Good Sam parks that are nice. Depends what you're looking for or planning to do. OBX runs the gammut, from little (around Waves) to touristy (Nags Head). Flat everywhere, so good for bike riding!

Take a look at: www.camphatteras.com
A very nice campground with large sites with concrete pads.

The link won't work because there is an extra "S" on camphatteras. Try www.camphatteras.com
Looks nice, but a bit pricey for our budget!

Outer Banks is really two different places -- the south, which is very much remote by comparison to the north. Depends on what kind of experience you are after. We go south and we go to Camp Hatteras. Pricey but worth it, in my opinion. There's a KOA as well there that we've stayed at and seen -- it's nice too, and a little cheaper. Also have stayed at Hatteras Sands which is even further south - but that is not on the water.

Thanks, The southern end is what we thought would be best. We'll drive up to see the tourist. We'll look at the Hatteras and the KOA.
Thanks

There's another one just down the road from Camp Hatteras and the KOA called Ocean Waves Campground. Privately owned and a great 'smaller' campground that is clean, roomy level concrete sites, grass between all sites, some are shaded and a short walk over the dunes to the beach. But, the best part is that it's half the price of Camp Hatteras or the KOA. However they fill up fast. Here's a link. www.oceanwavescampground.com

We have stayed at Ocean Waves several times and like it a lot. Very nice CG and friendly, if you have dogs you can take them right out on the beach too. Beau and Murphy love it there... Dave

Camp hatteras and the KOA are next door to one another.Have stayed at both of them. The KOA was a bit less expensive, camphatteras is really nice. Many of he CG on the OB may be to small for the large Montana's. Oceanwaves as stated is nice but not many spots and hard to get a reservation.......But try..

You could allways leave the monty at home and rent one of those nice houses on Bald Head Island, our son was married there a couple of years ago and we had a ball. Steve

Sorry that's not an option, this is why we bought the monty. We have made plans to stay at Camp Hatteras.

When you go be sure to take a day and drive south from the campground to Hatteras and take the free ferry over to Ocrakoke. Chariming fishing village with lots of shops and restaurants. If your TV has 4WD, there are numerous beach access points where you can go out and drive on the beach for miles.

One other option is to go a bit further south from Hatteras, down to Ocracoke and stay at the state park. No services and you have to take the Ferry to get there but the town is a wonderful biking area, quaint coffee house, great sea food. However it is also crowded but remote. John
