Bedsaver - Needed or Not

Even though we have been camping for aprox.40 yrs (Tents,Pop Ups, Pickup camper,Motorhome & Trailer) we are newbies to 5th wheeling.

Just curious if bedsavers are worth the cost or not.

How many of you out there really use them.

Thanks

Hi Gary,
Welcome to the Forum, glad you have jumped in here. I have one, it saved my Bacon one time, and serves as peace of mind for me. Our good friends with a Cardinal dropped their 5er on their beautiful Red Dodge, causing a combined $3500.00 damage. They were and are seasoned travelers, just made one mistake.
You have a yes vote from the Ozzman.

Like any insurance plan -- you hope you never have to use it but are sure glad when it is there. Things do happen (you get distracted, things don't latch right (maybe the landing gear legs latch pins for example) and when you pull out the trailer drops (had that one happen -- one pin didn't go back in all the way and I didn't see it -- pulled TV out from underneath and the trailer went down on one side --oouch). Some hitches don't accept Bed Savers (mine doesn't -- I have the reese signature series and I've not seen a bed saver that works with it yet .

I have the bed saver, haven't used it yet. That's a good thing. I like having the peace of mind. I just figure it is another insurance policy. At least WHEN it happens, I will be ready for it.....

I also have a bedsaver and would not be without it. It does take a little getting used to, you have to lift your pin up high enough to get in and out without hitting the bedsaver. It also makes your hitch heavy, which is a little tough on you when removing it from the truck bed.

Sounds like a good idea.

Think we'll invest in one

Thanks to all of you for responding.

We have had the bedsaver since day one..we have never used it and hope we never will. You will not need it till your camper slides off the hitch..till then it is a usless chunk of metal. It is a good thing to have.... Oh..We also have the V-tailgate..also usless till you back the pin through the OEM tailgate.

Is there a type of Bedsaver that works with the Pullrite Superglide hitch?

No, Not needed. Because of the PullRite's positive locking mechanism a Bedsaver is not at all needed. And, because of the sliding feature you couldn't install one if you wanted to.

OK Mocr's! I have a Reese slider and a regular or shortbed on my 2007. Do I need a saver or will it even work on my Reese?

A good friend towed his 5er several years with an F250 with no bed saver and never a problem. Bought a new '07 Chevy D/A last spring and dropped his 5er on the bed about 2-3 months later. After raising his jacks and removing his chocks, said the hitch didn't seem quite right. Rather than rechock the wheels and lower his jacks, he was testing the hitch to see if was fully latched. It wasn't. About $2500 worth.
