Brake adjustment

I need to adjust the brakes for the first time on my Mountaineer. I have an automotive type floor jack. Where is the proper placement of the jack - on the frame, the axle tubes, or what. I know that it might be easier to drive it up on something to get a wheel off the ground, but I do NOT want to re-install my fiver hitch in the truck and hook up etc. so that is why I want to use the jack. Also, I don't have a brake adjusting tool, can I just use a flat screwdriver instead? Any inof appreciated.

If I were doing it, I would put the jack under the axle as near the wheel as possible and still work on the brake. All you have to do is raise the wheel to barely clear the ground. Yes, you can use a flat blade screwdriver. Just tighten the brake until it binds and then back off and you are done. I find that a flash light is helpful too.

Same as Stiles but I chose to put the jack under one of the U-bolts that wrap the axle.
