Bathroom Sink Light Burns Ceiling

Has anyone else had a problem with their bathroon sink light being so hot that it will turn the ceiling above it brown and eventually cause the ceiling to blister and crack?

Better yet does anyone have a fix that they wouldn't mind sharing?

We heard about this some time ago. We replaced the bulbs with flourescent and all stays cool. Saves energy too!

Rainbirds, A couple of years ago I posted that the bulbs was burning my ceiling above the sink, Now they have cracks where it is burned. I too would like to know what to do to fix it. They had 40 watt bulbs and I replaced them with 25 watt and they did not burn it anymore. It just looks bad now with the cracks.

Like Illapah, we changed ours with Compact Fluorescent Bulbs - they have some now that look quite attractive. Cool to the touch and no more high heat!

Yes..We changed out the light bulbs to a softer bulb so it did not fell like you were under a spotlight..I had forgot about that design flaw and fix.

Thanks for the heads up. We have used that light so little, we have not done any damage but cooler bulbs are going in.

We changed ours to energy saving bulbs and have not noticed any problem. We didn't have any problem before we changed the bulbs, either.

Thanks to all responders. The flourescents bulbs are great and look surprizingly good too.

One draw back; they are very bright. The fixture had 3 40 watt bulbs which I replaced with 3 14 watt bulbs. I could not find any flourercent bulbs smaller than 14 watts.

Now I would like to find some material to patch the ceiling.

The flourescents do work very well at the reduced wattage. We only use 2 of the 3 sockets and more than ample light with the 14 watt bulbs. Same in our stick house.

Ours is not discolored but cooler bulbs will be installed at first chance.
Thanks for the heads-up.
