Low Batteries But Had Light

A month ago we were camping at a lake we like to fish and the batteries died and they were only 8 years old. The first night there it went down to -5 C about 6 AM everything stopped working. I got up and checked the battery charge on the indicator panel and the charge showed one light. I don't know why but I turned on the 12v light and much to my surprise they turned on. Last winter we bought LED lights off of Michael and Kat and replaced all our 12v lights in the 5th wheel. We were thankful that we had converted as we had light inside and it showed us how little power these lights draw. We will now be converting our S&B slowly to LEDS.
(We went to town and bought new batteries that morning)

Sounds like you need to have someone test the new batteries. Total discharge can do substantial damage to them.

It was our 8 year old batteries that died. I was trying to make them last until spring.

I would say that you are the man with a lot of luck to have made it eight years. I made it to six on my t105's in the diesel pusher and after one night not plugged in, I needed to jump the puppy in order to get to a campground. I thought I was lucky. Springtime will be the change out of the single 12vdc in the montana and short of 4 yrs. John

I agree with Jcurtis. Most batteries don't make it that long.
