Does anyone use it?

I have been looking at Optima Batteries. It is a different design than the flat lead plate type. They are more expensive than the regular lead plates, but less than the gel batteries. Do any of you have experience with this battery.

Yes Stiles Mine is 2 yrs plus make sure that you use a smart charger such as the one you plug in to converter. best part is you never add water. I only use one . if you dry camp a lot use 2. I also used 2 for my boat house bat & they never run down .

I haven't used a Optima battery in a RV, but have one in my tractor and also in a dump trailer. Both have been in use several years without any problems, very happy with them. I have no idea how well they would work in a RV.

Stiles,I think that the battery's that you are talking about are Gel Cell battery's. I had one in a Dakota and would highly recommend them. They are pricey but last a loooooong time. Also you will find that temp dose not affect them like a lead acid battery. They are great for cold weather.

I saw these batteries in Sam's Club. I had not seen them before, so thought I would check them out. They are lead/acid, but designed differently from the regular flat lead plate cell batteries. They are sealed and do not require service. They are designed to be mounted in any position you want. From the responses I have received on this forum and another, it sounds like Optima Blue Top may be a good choice for a replacement and Sam's Club has them for $155+Tax, a better price than I have found elsewhere.

On the Escapees forum, I got a couple of great testimonials of outstanding performance in cold weather (which is very hard on batteries) service even after setting up for 3 or 4 years.

Just went to Optima website, They do not offer a battery for diesel Ford. Saw that the blue top is for RV.

I was speaking of an RV battery. However, when I go to Optima's website, I find 4 batteries listed for the 2008 F350 King Ranch, two red top and two yellow top.

We only use the Optima red top in our race car and have had great luck with it. We would get only 1 season out of a Die Hard but have had no problems with the Optima. We now use the battery in the race car for 2 seasons then rotate them to the tow vehicle. Our reserve battery for the race car is 6 years old and still works great. Never has left us stranded. The blue top is not as highly recommended for a deep cycle. It doesn't have the amp hour rating that the standard acid battery has and from our experiences has not been a good deal. The real good thing about the Optima is the lack of corrosion. There is none with an Optima. Double check your amp hours if you are looking for a battery for your trailer. If your looking for one for your TV then you can expect good things out of the red top.
