Window Sun Shades
Looking for ideas on reducing the amount of heat coming through the windows during the hot summers in the south. We were in a campground in Tallahassee, FL this week and saw two SOBs with exterior "SunShade" brand retractable screens on the rear picture window. I also considerd adding some of the film that reduces heat that you can get from Home Depot. I used it on a bedroom in the stick house and it was very effective.
Anyone have experience or thoughts in this area? Thanks.

I am going to make sunshades with sun shade fabric from Farmtec - bought all the stuff quite a while back but never got them made - I am going to this spring as we are in Arizona long term.
I got 80% shade fabric and will use velco for the windows except the slideout sides - bought tension rods to use on those windows - got this tip from an article in one of the RV magazines.
You can purchase them is you look around - it is cheaper to make your own - if you can sew. I have also thought about gluing seams instead of sewing - have to see if glue will hold as it is a tight open weave.
Hope this helps,
Laura

I installed the rear window sun screen and love it. It was pretty easy to install and works great. I'm going to be installing window awnings on 3 of the windows as soon as they come in. That will also help with the sun.

We purchased inside roller blinds made by Carefree of Colorado utilizing sunshade material. Works good on the windows and you get relief from the heat and can still see outside.

We had sun shades made in AZ that fit on the outside of the windows and fasten with twist locks. When not in use they roll up and are stored in the front locker. You can still see outside and they do help with the heat.
