Thanks ozz. I have the switches but don't know what to use them for. What are some of the more common uses?

A really good place to go is Diesel Stop for info on these. I followed the advice given on one of these posts to rig mine where you can kick the idle up when running the engine for extended periods while sitting still. This helps to reduce carbon buildup and actually helps the A/C system when running it while idling. 2 of the switches are rated for heavier loads such as auxillary lights the other two are rated for smaller loads. The posts on this topic cover all this info and more.

Dave gave a good answer, but it's just any accessory you might want to install

The neat thing about the idle modification is all you do is connect 2 existing wires already in your truck. I used swith #4 and the emergency brake must be activated for it to work. If you flip the switch off or release the emergency brake the idle goes back to normal.

I actually hard wired my pressure pro into Upfitter Switch #3 (the only 10AMP Upfitter switch). I put the pressure pro on the drivers side visor and ran the wire it came with down the molding to the wires underneath the steering wheel. I then cut the 12 volt plug off of the pressure pro, installed an in-line 2amp fuse and hooked the red wire up to the wire for Upfitter switch #3 (If I remember correctly it is the violet wire - the only thin wire in the set) and hooked the black wire up to a good ground.

Works great.

On a Cummins diesel, you can ask the dealer to set the 'high idle' feature. It's a freebie and you turn on the cruise control, bump the 'set' button and it goes to 1100 rpm. Then if you push the 'accerlerate button, you can run it up to 1500 rpm. Touching the brake or off switch shuts it off.

Well we have made the decison to not get the new 08 ford 6.4 l this model year. I can get another X pin number for the 09 model year.We have ben monitoring this forum and a couple of others as well as questioning every 08 6.4L owner we come across. The general consensus is that the truck and the motor are awesome and there are few first year issues..however..it is generally agreed that the MPG is low. I actually do within 1/1.5 mpg and in many cases as well with my 05 V-10. Not much of a money saving there. Hopefully Ford will iron out the MPG issue in the 2nd year motor. Please do not get on the gas/diesel thing...I know the diesel is a better all over motor..just relating why WE will not buy one this year. Drove a Dodge Diesel and they make the Ford..and Chevy look bad..what power,,but do not make the truck in the configuration we need. We are polling our friends for a retired GM worker so we can get a GM family plan..I could do a chevy.. Meanwhile the 05 Gasser will do//we are going to Flordia this winter and that is all down hill from Ohio so I can coast most of the way.....right???

Right on Rich.... Be sure you stop and see us in Florida. We will be there by the 1st of November in our '05 Ford 350 Diesel........ It has served us well for 70,000 miles and we still love it. We too will be looking at the '09's later on.

We'll be about 50 miles North on Hwy 40. About 12 miles East of Ocala in Silver Springs at the Wilderness RV Resort. We bought Lot 90 in the Town Park and can't wait to get back there. They have very reasonable spots to rent for a few days on your way to the Meese's so stop by. It was a PA last year. Not sure if it still is or not but check it out.

Travel safe,
Helen

Hey Rich,
If your trek takes you through WV, I think you actually leave the state at a higher elevation than you enter it coming from Ohio going south. There goes the gas mileage, fill up in Ohio though, highway robbery here in the Mountain State. Sorry about the mountain induced mileage bubble busting. Still envy everyone heading South though, we only get the week of Thanksgiving in the Sunshine State.

Uh, Rich? It will be all uphill until Tennessee. Then downhill... after the Jellico, TN hill climb (5 miles).
