3500HD dually

We are investigating a dually. What I can't find out and I am sure I am just missing it, but what is the fifth wheel tow rating on a 3500HD Duramax/Allison, 4x4, Crew Cab? I do realize that options on the truck make a difference and each truck individually weighs a bit different but in general how much would we be loosing on the weight capacity for towing the fifth wheel and on GCVWR?

Also probably another dumb question but can skid plates be added later?

Thanks in advance,
Patty

OK, are you suggesting this is what we need to be towing? Seriously I am not quite sure what exactly what you wanted me to pay attention to.

Our dealer has located two vehicles but neither one has the skid plate. They have everything else under the sun on them but not a skid plate.

So you can only tow 12000 lbs fiver with a Crew Cab dually 4x4? Seems pretty low and that we are loosing on tow capacity but gaining in Rear Axel rating. Confusing as always since a SRW still is too low for our Rear Axel towing our Montana.

Fifth wheel tow rating for the model (new model 07) in question is 15,900, GCWR for all GM duallys is 23,500. Options will not make a difference on tow rating since it is determined by subtracting the vehicle's weight from the GCWR.

Understand, so I guess I should be asking what someone's similarly equipped 3500 HD weighs?

The dollar investment is big so we are trying to look at it from all sides.

Eagle Man we are looking at 2007 models but not the Classic. There are no rebates on 2008 models or incentives.

The weights I posted are for the new model, not the Classic.

What are you trying to determine, cargo capacity? If so, it is listed on the door sticker. If you want the truck weight, find the cargo capacity and subtract it from the GW of 11,400, which is the same for all GM duallys.

Skid plates can be added aftermarket. Tow rating on my classic is 16,000 with A/T, GCWR is 23,500. 3500 allowable pin weight. The 12,000 number is for TT towing with W/D hitch. The 08's should be comparable.

Dick and Patty, I have a 2077 Chevy Classic 4x4 DRW 1 ton loaded with all options except a sliding rear window. At the Flying J Cat scales ready to tow our weights are listed below. We have a Trailer Saver air ride hitch so we have a little more weight than the standard hitch.... I don't think the new body style is any heavier. Also I use to get skid plates on all my trucks. Unless you are doing a lot of off roading I think its a money that could be better used.... We will be trading for a 2009 HD truck, by then all the bugs will be out of the emissions system. I must say I haven't heard of any problems with the GM trucks..... Good Luck... GBY....

Front 4540
Rear 3760

Total: 8300

We load out at 14000 pounds full up, with 1/2 tank of water and empty tanks otherwise. we full time, and don't travel real heavy. The Duramax.Allson combo doesn't even know the trailer is back there. My hihgest tranny temp going over the Sykious was only 190 degrees and the coolant temp never went over normal. Going downgrade was easy. Set you speed with the brake and let the tranny and engine combop take over had to tap the brakes a very few times coming down some 7% grade byut otherwise no problems, no brake fade, etc. GREAT RIG!!!!!

Patty,

I weighed our 07 Classic without trailer, but with most of the other stuff we carry in the truck. 8460 lbs. (4640 front + 3820 back).
