Flying J and Passport America.........

Having used my Flying J card so often I wore it out. Well at least the magnetic strip to the point I had to go inside at every fuel up.

I just got my new card in the mail with other FJ stuff in the envelope. I was totally surprised to see a Passport America application included with this stuff. Now I do realize that FJ does get a kick back on each and every new PPA member they get but it still surprises me and at the same time it doesn't. It has been said that of the major truck stops FJ is the most RV friendly and this is just more proof of their RV friendliness.
When on the road, with the Monty or not, I always look for the FJ's first as they are typically the better price of ALL the truck stops and with their card we get an extra penny per gallon discount. If a FJ is not available, I will search out a Love's.

Kickback...Hmmmmm....Sounds familiar.
But I do agree about Flying J's being RV friendly. We stop at every one of them when we travel.

We also make great use of Flying Js. In the areas where we commonly travel, they seem to be just where we need them. They seem to have expanded greatly in the last year, especially in Canada. We have noticed that some of the older ones are in need of some updating and maintenance.

Noticed on the last trip out southwest that the truck stop in Dodge City (just as you are entering town from the east) has been bought out and is now a Flying J.

We look for Flying J's, too. If they are not around we try to find an RV friendly independent...Love's and Pilot always seem dirty and crowded.

Dennis:

Pardon my ignorance, but where are you getting a 5% cash back gas card from? That sounds like real money.

I noticed that if I can get into the pumps in front or they have RV pumps, that I can use my credit card with our getting penalized for not using cash. Once on this trip, I had to use the truck pumps and paid 5 cents more than the posted price. My credit card gives me cash back at the end of the year depending on how much I use the card.

David & Jo-Anna if you have a Flying J RV card you get 1 cent per gallon discount. If you pay cash or use a debit card you get 5 cents per gallon discount. The cash price is what they usually post on their signs.

I have ALWAYS gotten the CASH price at the FJ Auto/RV pumps and I ALWAYS use my Chase Rewards card as well as my FJ card at the pumps. My FJ card gives me the 1 cent per gallon discount and my Chase Rewards gives me a 5% discount. With the Chase card we allow the 5% to accumulate to $75 and request a rebate. Lorraine handles all the financial matters and she requests the rebate online. Within days we get a check in the mail.

We are also looking at a Discover Card that also gives a rebate.

Yep has Glenn stated I too have the Chase Rewards card. But with 5000 reward points Chase sends me a $50.00 check in the mail. With this card I also get 5% cash back on Groceries and prescription drugs!!

The sad news is Chase as lower its rewards to 3% now Glenn and I are grandfathered in at 5%.

I also get the cash price and the Flying J discount using my Citibank Rewards card at the pump or inside.

I'm not quite so enamored of Flying J as some of you. I've not enjoyed sitting in long RV pump lines while a couple of Class A's pump a couple hundred gallons. I also had to wait while a guy dumped his tanks. The dump stations are often right where they block the RV fuel lanes. I will more often use their truck pumps to avoid those lines.

If I see a long line at the FJ, I'll look for another station within a penny or two per gallon and will pay the extra price to save the aggravation of sitting in line. Just my experience and opinion and obviously different from most others.

We always use the truck pumps, because we have a 116 gallon aux tank in the bed and it takes forever at the RV pump. I filled up today at Flying J in Billings, MT and got the advertised price ($1.79) with my Mastercard. The clerk told me they don't honor Visa cards at the truck pumps because they charge Flying J too much. They do honor them at the car & RV pumps -- doesn't make much sense to me.

I use the Flying J and Petro truck stops. I used to prefer the Flying J, but lately have found the Petro truck stops to be more RV friendly with more fueling lanes.

On the Flying J price, I always get the cash price when fueling by swiping my RV Loyalty card. The RV loyalty card will automatically give you the 1 cent per gallon discount with the purchase of twenty gallons or more, and then below that discount on the receipt will be the "cash" discount. This has worked for me on the truck fueling lanes and the automobile fueling lanes. Most of the time I pay with Visa (air miles) but have also paid with cash and either way, I still received the cash price.

Gee Bob, we will be going to Billings soon and sure hope they still honor the $1.79 price. I haven't seen that for quite a few years. When you get to Custer it is up to $2.83

The problem I have found with using the truck pumps vice the car and rv is the larger nozzle on the pump. It doesn't fit in the hole in my gas tank fill spout. Is there an adapter that you can buy and carry with you to enable you to easily use the truck pumps?

Bill

Helen, After filling up in Billings we're good for at least 1,600 miles. By then it'll probably be back up to $3.00

Bill, there may be such an adapter, but I haven't seen one. The truck nozzle fits in my tank OK.

Here in Fla. we get 1 cent a gallon off but 1/2 cent a gallon on 20 gallons or less purchase. That minimum of 20 gal. is never a problem.

I like the Flying J's but I don't like to wait behind some construction worker with a 1-ton and a 150 gallon tank in the box of his truck. He shouldn't be in the "RV" line anyway. I did register a complaint at one of the Flying J's and the answer I got was, "We can't police every vehicle that comes through." I would use the truck lanes if it wasn't for the big hose nozzle that pumps the fuel too fast.
