That is a great truck and I hope you have many trouble free miles with it. Now hook to the Montana and break it in right. Mine had 50 miles on it when I hooked onto the Montana and headed to the east coast.

Thanks everyone,

You know, I was reading the responses to this thread to my wife and we kinda got misty eyed because everyone is so nice on this forum!

We had 18,000 miles on a 2006 SRW 3500 D/A, and absolutely enjoyed it. Traded it in due to a vibration problem that may end up in litigation. Can't really get into it.

Any way, if it hadn't been for this problem, we'd still be in the 2006.

But, picked up the '07 on Monday; the Line-X liner was sprayed in on Tuesday (white); the rain gutters, mud flaps and bug-shield installed today; the hitch, brake controller and tool box get installed tomorrow and then it's ready for the Monty.

On Monday, we get new Alcoa rims for the Monty, then head for sunny San Diego. We don't plan on returning for any length of time for at least 5 years.

Again, we are so humbled by the many positive responses of the members of this wonderful forum. Thank you.

Mudchief,

Did you do anything special when towing the Monty with so few miles? I was just going to use tow haul mode (as I have done in the past) and keep the pyro temps down by not putting my foot into it. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Congrats, one fine looking tow vehicle. Of course I can't wait to hear how you rate the drw to the srw. Keep us posted!

Michael, where I purchased my truck they sell only diesel rigs and they told me to break it in the way I was going to use it. I was told that the tolerances on the new engines and transmissions are so good that there is no breaking like on the older models.
They did tell me to always run it in the tow haul when pulling. I have 40K on it now and I would say more than half of that has been pulling equipment trailers that weigh much more than our 3400RL. I have not had a single problem with it. My son did the same with his new 3/4 ton truck. He pulled a flat bed loaded with steel to New Orleans we are not going to say what that weighed.

Our 2007 Classic Silverado 3500 DRW came with instructions not to tow anything for the first 500 miles. Don't know how close this is to your GMC. Bet you won't need the heated tailgate option that was recently discussed in another topic. LOL.

Same here...all three of our trucks are Classics, thus the same. My dealer emphasized no towing or heavy work for the first 500 miles. FWIW, that's what the manual says, too.

Sweet ride Michael, Sue and I are happy for you two. Maybe we can meet up somewhere, If I can't get you to make the trip to South Padre from November 1 of this year, to April of next, maybe we can meet.....Montana? Idaho?
Sue just took her birds to a gal at the Vet's office for their new home. I'm looking for a home for our little girl Brandy, (My cutie Ferret.)
I put an immense load of Junk on the lower driveway for the big trash pickup.
So....we are trying to get rid of everything, sell the house and be like you guys.
Hey Michael, I know of a place out West that could work on that new truck...............

Michael, thats a awesome TV, we had a GMC 3500 also got it while we were out West in June 06. We found the Truck in Colorado Springs the Truck had 11 miles on it and we drove around the night before leaving and when we hooked to the 5er had 125 miles on it. We pulled thru the Colorado Rockies and I must admit I was concerned not having at least 500 + miles. However we never had a problem, when we traded it for the 4500 we had 26,000 miles and that was in 10 months and we have a order for a 2007.5 or 2008 what ever GM does. We can submit the order the 4 week of April. We ordered every option except the DVD player and Navagation system. We looked at the Classic but it had the same interior as our 2005 so we decided to wait for the new body style. Great Looking TV and you will love it. Don't forget to Tork the Alcoa's after the first 50 miles, they will look awesome on the Montana. Good Luck...GBY....

P.S. I would try to put a few hundred miles before Towing, don't forget that Truck has a black box under the drivers seat. Big brother is watching.....

Re towing before the 500 mile mark. Over on the Diesel Place they say the 500 miles is not for the engine or transmission, but the rear end and all the 'other' parts.
