Crack In Shower Pan

Well, Its happened to me, and the search function isn't working very well.

The crack in in the floor, right where the tread area and the smooth part from where the wall rolls down and meet.

I think I remember someone saying to drill a hole at the ends of the crack??

should I try to squirt some spray foam under it to support it better before I use the repair epoxy?

Gorilla tape is my current friend. LOL

THANKS!!!

I was told, by someone who would know, that since things have to be installed in a big hurry the shower install guys frequently shave some foam or use a lighter to melt it down so installation goes smoothly. Then at some time latter the floor cracks. We had ours replaced and a proper amount of foam added. Not sure about spray foam since it expands, but I'd bet you're on the right track about supporting it better.

If it is a single crack and you don't mind the look of an epoxy repair, drilling a hole at each end will stop it from increasing. Just replaced my shower pan, 36" neo angle with seat as my crack was a zig zag that had more than two end runs. Gorilla tape worked well to keep any water in the tub. I epoxied first, but didn't have any faith it would hold up...hence replacing it. LaMesa RV did the leg work with keystone and ordered the new one for me. My pan was made by Duo-Form Plastics. What I found when I removed the old one was that the styrofoam under the pan had compressed a bunch, so there was a lot of movement in the floor of the pan. I added a layer of corregated plastic between the bathroom floor and shower pan to take out all movement on the new one. Foam injected would help to support the area of the fix...but don't know how valuable it would be overall. There is no support anywhere, just the foam cushion under the part of the floor where it is textured. In my model, the drain had to be near the front to clear the water heater right under the floor and within two inches of the drain location...so no fiberglass pan would work. John

I have had my shower pan crack for around three years now. When the wife and I ran Turtle Rock Resort in Gold Beach, Oregon, one of my work camper maintenance guys told me about a Marine gel two part Epoxy. It held for two years the first time and still holding so far the second time. It goes on in a thick gel, depending how much of the powder you mix into the liquid part and dries in 12 hour smooth so now rough edges for the bare feet in the shower. I and the wife have been happy with this fix instead of replacing the shower pan. Hope this helps.

I have had a crack for 5 or 6 years. Purchased a package at Lowes that contained 3 colored sticks of "epoxy/clay"? I followed the instructions and fixed my tub. As stated earlier, it has held up for 5 or 6 years.
