Campground Near Buccaneers in Tampa

We are looking for a good campground near Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. We are visiting our son and going to the Bucs/Eagles game in October. We would ask him to help, but he seems to be fairly busy this time of year. He's the Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Bucs and usually spends 14 hours a day + seven days a week. Since many of you winter in Florida, thought ou might have some good suggestions.

We stayed at Hillsborough River State Park which is about 24 miles from the stadium according to Mapquest. It was a very nice park. I think it was just w/e but can't remember for sure and I think you could get wifi at the concession place if I remeber right

Hold the phone! Hillsborough River State Park is WAY more than 4 miles from Ray Jay! More like 25 miles. I've lived here since '82, and I know both of these places well...

HRSP is a very nice park, though. I cannot think off hand of a camp ground that is close to Ray Jay. In fact, there is probably nothing closer than the campground at lazy Days RV and that is at least 15 miles from the stadium.

Is Bay Bayou a nice place? One thing about Woodalls and the others - can't tell how the area is.

If you don't mind driving about 30 mi, Quail Run RV in Wesley Chapel is a good place to stay.

From living in this little nightmare of traffic congestion (Tampa) over 30 years, I would not suggest anything east on I-4 which would include Hillsborough State Park and Lazy Days. They are both nice parks, but the traffic at any time of the day coming in to Tampa on I-4 or I-275 is horrible, not only due to the construction on I-275, but just the way it was reverse engineered into the dysfunctional quagmire of roads all merging together today. This plus the Dale Mabry exit off I-275S is also under construction and it is the exit you would take to get to Raymond James.

The Bay Bayou is west on Hillsborough Avenue a few miles from the stadium on a much better approach road to the stadium. Also are parks north on the Suncoast Parkway would also be a better choice, but I have not stayed at any of them as I live here. Check out RV Park reviews at http://www.campgroundreviews.com/ Hopefully some of the snowbirds can recommend parks in that area. Just trying to save you hours in idle traffic and frustration.

Glad you caught my typo. I was never a secretary.

As I think about it, there is an Encore park called Winter Quarters on hiway 54 in Land O Lakes, about 2 miles from our S&B. Seems like a nice little park, and as it is north of Tampa you cna cruise right down Dale Mabry Hiway to the stadium in about 30 minutes, as long as it is not rush hour! No construction to speak of at this moment.

Mike(pineranch) beat me to it! We stayed at Bay Bayou two years ago when we spent the winter in Florid. We liked it! We were parked on grass but it was solid and had full hookups with no problems. Nearly every morning we would have visitors stop by and entertain us. They would strut around and show us what they had! They were four to six cranes by the way! As we came into the park the entire front area is seasonal or full time sites and the site we had was back beyond that. Check out their website!
