Cargo Carrier

Has anyone used a receiver hitch cargo carrier on their truck with a fifth wheel? Just wondering if it will fit or if it causes any concerns when turning? I have seen them on the back of the 5ers but thought it might work on the truck while towing. The one that I am looking at says that it is 22" deep. Thanks for any assistance. Keep Kamping!!

You could draw it out to scale on paper and get a pretty good idea if it would work. I think I am going to do that as soon as I can get some dimensions of a bike rack that mounts in the receiver. I would like to take the bicycles along with out crushing them while turning.

We carry two adult bikes on a bike rack in our truck receiver hitch. There is room to turn with room to spare. It does depend on your setup. We have a 2004 Montana and a 2004 longbed Dodge dually.

I guess it would really depend on your setup - I couldn't fit 1 bike in the truck receiver, or up on the pin box. My tolerances are way too tight in both areas.

I've actually considered just going with the Yakima rack for the roof of the truck.

We have an 04 trailer and there's more than enough room for a bike rack. I've noticed on the newer units that there is not enough room for anything in that space. Newer frames don't have the clearance the older ones did. We made ours from an old sqare trailer bumper carrier and it works fine. Pictures at www.picturetrail.com/tbhd

Nice set-up.
I also have an 04 2980RL and have plenty of room, even with the tail gate down I can do a 90 degree.

OH I also have a 8 foot bet which does help.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll just have to try it.

I had one on the back of my 2500HD when I towed an 04 3295RK It was great. The way to measure is measure the distance from the pin to the lower front of the trailer. Then place that measurement from the pin acrost the rear corner of the bed. You will see hou much room you have for a carrier.

For what it's worth, I don't have enough room in front of the Cambridge. Montana used to brag that they were the only trailer that could be towed with the TV end gate down. I don't think that will work with the newer trailers.

That might be a good thing to keep you from hitting the cab. You might hear the cargo carrier crunch before glass breaking !!

If you don't already have one (and don't want to spend the $$ to find out), I like the idea of making a scale cardboard or paper model of the "footprint". Pin or brad them together at the pivot point and see what happens.

Why not just buy one from a bike dealer, mount it in the receiver, add bikes, add monty, IF it doesn't work, take it back and go to plan B....Just tell the bike dealer what you are doing so when you take it back they understand.....

the one I had came from Harbor freight and had to be assembled. The measurements are easy enough to do and there is no hassle.

I used my carrier to haul my Big Green Egg around. There is a description of the whole setup including pictures of the carrier at
