Blue Ox Bedsaver

Has anyone had any experience with the Blue Ox Bedsaver? I am new to pulling a Montana 3400RL and am very paranoid about dropping the RV on the TV someday.

Here is the link to their site:

Thanks,

Buddy

Better than insurance. I have had mine since 04 and would not be without it.

We also have a bed saver. Very cheap insurance. Even though we have it, we still do the pull test. Just want to make sure trailer is secured to the truck.

I have had one since pulling. Cheap insurance and doesn't detract from the truck at all.

Hello All I have been doing some reshearch on the bed savers and Pin locks. I'm here in Kanab Ut, the closes Dealer is in Las Vegas about 130 miles one way. I called them, as i'm more interested in the Pin Lock than the bedsaver. Rod at Jonnie Walker RV said the Pin lock only fits a couple of models of Hicthes, not mine. They can get the bed saver that fits, he quoted a price of 240.00. Some where on one of the other threads I saw a price of 178.00 was that back east or does someone know where a dealer that sell for the lower price. Randye

Guess I'm going against the grain here...but saying you need a bed saver is like saying there are two kinds of pilots...those that have landed gear up and those that will land gear up. There are lots of pilots that have never landed gear up and lots of 5th wheel drivers that have never dropped the trailer.

Ok...to side with Tom at the risk of being "body slammed" by others. I have no need for this device as my routine requires I check that my RBW LiL rocker slide bar has engaged. There are no jaws which can fool one into thinking the hitch is locked. Not clear to me what the other risks are and have been towing 5th Wheels for many years now (LiL Rocker only). So...one last disclaimer insurance can be priceless if you think its necessary, just get one.

I should have mentioned in my initial post...I have a slide bar also. Very easy to see (or even hear) when the bar is closed and locked.

Hey Randye, I just installed one of the Blue Ox Pin Locks which I purchased from Draw-Tite Hitches for 176.95 with free shipping. I just checked and they still have free shipping. There are more hitches covered than is shown on their site. What brand of hitch do you have? Oh, by the way the pictures shown on their site are wrong for the Pin Locks. They show the picture for the Bedsaver. I ordered a model number BXR5100 which is for a Reese 16k Slider hitch.

Here is the URL for Drawtire for the BXR5100: http://www.hitchfinder.com/products/...Slider,BXR5100

Just remember that the picture shown is wrong, it is for the original Bedsaver.

Read this thread that I posted on the Pin Lock: Blue Ox BedSaver Pin Lock - Install Update

The one that Dave is talking about above is for the original Bedsaver, not the Bedsaver-Pin Lock.

Buddy-- If I was heading back down to TN within the next few weeks (I just returned from Lookout Mountain about two weeks ago and passed through Signal Mountian!) I'd bring you one down! I'm heading up to Pender, NE where they are made this next weekend and will be picking myself up either a Bedsaver or a Pin Lock- which ever works for my Reese Slider. I'll let you know how they work and which one the factory recommends!

Hey Rondo, I would like to have met you when you were down my way. Maybe next time your down this way we can. I have just bought and installed a model number BXR5100 Pin Lock on my Reese 16k Slider. It was pretty easy to install. The only trouble I had was in getting the bolt holes to line up exactly since it is a very tight fit on the hitch head. This is very good after you get it bolted on. The only other thing was that the heavy metal "tabs" that they use to secure the bottom of the Pin Lock to the bottom flange on the hitch were a little hard to hold in place while tighting the bolt. This is because they use locking nuts on all their fasteners. Again, this is a very good design once you get everything tightened down. You could pass the info on to them that they might want to consider making this "tab" a little thicker or maybe weld a block on it so you could more easily get a wrench on it to hold it in place while tighting the lock nut.

I desided on the Pin Lock since it sits right up on the hitch and seems to me that it would put less stress on the hitch, should a drop occur, than the original Bedsaver would. Let us know what you deside to buy.

Good luck on your trip.

ehmcfarl I left a pm at your private message, I talked to drawtite and Blue Ox. They don't make the pin lock for the 16K Husky made by valley. I have the experiance and talent to make my own, I learned welding and frabrication during my former profession and a Water Well Driller for 30yrs. If you can send me the instructions, when I get to our next destination at the Grand Canyon, North Rim I will be running the Service Station, maybe they will have a welder and a shop. Thanks randye
